I've half an eye on a 50mmm F1.7 A for the Z-1 and the MZ-M but having the 58mm means its a luxury buy.

I once appeared as a witness at Mold Crown Court!!!! No photos though.
As the saying goes "it's a small world"....we called at a tea room/cottage at the end of the beach on walk from Porthleven to Lizard Point, terrific stretch of coastline, especially Mullion Cove and Kynance, we'll certainly be visiting again one day!!

I knew I'd get a few good examples I have the same view of Gunwalloe Doug, taken with a sigma 10-20 though, gives me the perfect comparison

I've decided I'm going to pick up a 50mm "A" lens and give it a try, my main cash will be spent on an UWA, at the moment the 8-16mm being the favourite

No never tied it, always used the Siggy 10-20mm fine for me.
It was just another option I was considering - having just read the Photozone review of the new Sigma 8-16mm though I've just changed my line of thought 100% back to the UWA, I was considering the used DA 14mm that SRS have but the Sigma looks very promising

I'm just considering buying a 50mm for landscape use, mainly due to lack of distortion and level of sharpness. I see it been particularly useful for panos, which I'm about to have a go at.

Anyone else use their 50mm much for landscapes?

thanks

Remember also that the Sigma is FF compatable whereas the Pentax 12-24mm is not.

No use atm but it maybe one day.

Also, remember to give it a good tryout as (like the 10-20mm) there were quite a few duff ones (very soft at the edges)
Thanks for the info Mike but have you got a little confused between Samsung & Sigma You'll have to stop watching those England games, mess with your head !!

I've been offered a Samsung 12-24mm but been asked to name my price, what would people pay for one in good condition?

thanks

Simon - what swayed your decision over the smaller DA 15mm ltd? Price?

I've been pretty tempted to pick up a wide prime but don't know if I'll gain much other than a lighter bag compared to my DA 12-24mm.

What are others views on the various wide options available?

Will
I've heard very good things from a few owners about the DA14mm & prefer it over the 15mm purely because of the extra 1mm, size/weight doesn't come high up on my list - the K20D is hardly a compact.

Ultimately I'd prefer the DA 12-24 but prices are now silly imho, it's not a lens I'm likely to use too frequently so can't justify the costs.

think I'll give purelygadgets a miss - I'm in no hurry so hopefully something will come along soon

Ems,

Don't get me wrong, I often post shots on the web/forums to gain valuable feedback, however I always print any images as personally I think the true test of an image is how it looks in "the real world".

I think a little caution needs to be taken when editing images based purely on feedback from web users, especially regarding colour/sharpness - you've no idea on their PC setup/monitor calibration and judging image sharpness is very difficult based upon a small 800x600 web image, image sharpening should always be carried out at 100% "zoom" on the "final output size" (print size or web display size) of the image to be able to see its full effect.

Having said all that there's some very knowledgable forum members on here who provide very useful feedback, don't always be swayed by their (or my) opinions though - it's your shot and the main thing is you're happy with it !!

Ems,

Not sure if you're using Photoshop or if you're already aware of this but there's a pretty handy "action" which gives several different mono conversions and takes some of the hard work out of the process...
