I like the colour version.

But what a great choice of location to capture a dramatic shot like this.

And what about the composition too? The near & distant ridges leading you to the train.

Where was the shot taken, Simon? Was it just before the train's last push to the summit station or lower down the mountain?
It's just on the last incline...the new summit building is just out of shot to the right - as are about 150 tourists !!

I also shot a couple of landscapes of wider views at the top, unfortunately not in the best light but they've given me a few great ideas from my next climb up the mountain, probably nearer to sunrise sometime in septemeber/october.

Thanks for the feedback everyone

Personally I prefer the selective colour version over the B&W but with them both I'm thinking there's probably a bit too much "rubble" in the foreground that appears a bit harsh in B&W. I've tried toning down the contrast but then it looks a bit flat.

With the colour one I'm not 100% sure about the sky, the haze has produced a slightly unnatural looking colour (as Andrew mentioned), although maybe this adds to the photos appeal :confused2:

It's the blue haze that's evident in the B&W conversion - I need to desaturate the puff of smoke to remove it

I was there there on Wednesday, your shots certainly give a great feel for the place.....was it also you Andrew that posted the old petrol station shot - I drove by it a few times as we stayed just outside Llanrug?

Alternatively, how about "selective colour"?

Just returned from a few days hiking in Snowdonia, unfortunately the weather wasn't great for photography but this time of year it rarely is.

Anyway we walked up/down Snowdon and this is one of the shots I tried, which do you prefer colour or mono?

thanks

Simon

DSCL - great quality and very reasonable pricing, I've always found Photobox good too but if you're framing the print their Matt prints are not as good as the lustre ones from DSCL

Why not just ask them if they have a "usual" fee that they pay for exhibits such as this, chances are it's not the first time they've done it.

If you're then not happy with the figure you can start negotiations.

Personally I'd be delighted to have work exhibited in this was and would certainly push for a decent name credit beside the display. When you have confirmation its to be displayed contact your local newspapers, they are often interested in this type of thing.

One note of caution as you are supplying a digital image, make sure you make it clear that the fee is for limited usage, re display during the exhibition

Well done BTW!!

Yes, and your shots sweep most of the others into a cocked hat, if I may say so. Wonderful work.
Thanks for the very generous comments, having great scenery to shoot makes a big difference though

As Matt says you can spend your life trying to master Colour management and never quite get there.

I initially experimented with Argb but decided it was a waste of effort as all my prints need to be Srgb and monitor viewing is Srgb - I retain all RAW files though in case this changes one day !!

I personally prefer now to keep things to Srgb - one issue with this however is that I've noticed the K20D often captures colour outside of the Colourspace (mainly yellow/green) and to try & ensure that my prints reflect what I see on screen I often de-saturate these slightly to pull them back into Srgb. Most prints I get back represent the screen image pretty well now

I must admit that having given it some thought I prefer the idea of a metal hood - I look at them as a form of lens protection
Are you sure you want a metal hood for protection? There is no give in metal and all a shock will be transmitted to the lens. A plastic or rubber hood will absorb some shock as it flexes.
Swings & roundabouts I suppose John...I was thinking more about the glass than the lens body but I see your point, I can't see the collapsible rubber one providing any glass protection - obviously the idea is not to drop a lens in the first place though
