Regarding the wide angle, if I were in your position I would spend a bit more time taking landscape shots before deciding on a UWA lens. Personally I've owned and then sold one (Sigma 10-20)as I just found that it didn't suit my photography "style" - as Banjo mentioned too much lost detail in the distance & "effects" caused by the perspective(I much prefer the Pentax DA 17-70 for landscapes.

Also with landscapes the chances are that you will be using apertures around F11/F16 to emphasise depth, at these apertures the IQ difference between primes and zooms is not quite so significant as it is when using larger apertures (F2.8 etc) so the added flexibility of a zoom may well be more beneficial.

I'm selling a FA 50mm 1.4 which is in mint condition, supplied in original box with a used Takumar screw-in metal lens hood I recently bought off ebay (works perfectly with the lens).

Only reason I'm selling is that I've just bought a DA 40mm which is more suited to my needs so the 50mm won't really get used.

Price: £185 including Royal Mail Special Delivery.

(I'll add a couple of photos later today)

Any questions please PM me

I prefer payment by Bank Transfer, to save on the Paypal fees !!

thanks

Sorry to go against the flow but to be honest the only one that works for me is the one of the dog, which is great.

For me most of the others show the problem of using UWA lenses sometimes, that the foreground just overpowers the rest of the scene which is fine when its something dramatic (like the dog). It's for this reason I sold my 10-20 and now stick with the 17-70 - as with all photography though its also down to personal taste

I find that Pentax 1.00 give me the best result colour wise but that's personal of course.
Thanks for the infor Stefan..only problem is I don't have Pentax 1.00 as an option, just the 3 in my original post + ACR 4.4 ?

I'm just reviewing my workflow & wondered which CS4 Raw camera profile people found best with the K20D - Embedded, Adobe Standard or Camera standard?

thanks

I've had the same thoughts as I'm off to China. I'll be taking the K20D, DA 17-70, DA 55-300, all in a very inconspicous black rucksack.

Regarding a compact I'm much more tempted by something like the Samsung WB650 travel zoom or one of the others in the test here:

Yes I have just read that review and I am tempted by a couple of the units tested.especially the casio given my original thoughts on high burst speed. I don't do much action stuff but when I do I get really frustrated with the K10d frame per second speed or lack of it and the missed shots or more accurately the small choice of them.
Their final choice and reasons are interesting as well.
All super zooms which I thought would preclude high IQ but seemingly not.

My own thinking is that if IQ is my main priority then nothing but the K20D will do, the likes of the LX3, G11 etc are still compromised regarding IQ compared to the K20D, as they are when it comes to portability/convenience.

The "compact zooms" seem a much better option regarding travel - great focal range (obviously with limits though), decent IQ but most importantly 100% convenient/portable, which to me is the main reason for taking a compact along anyway.
