Mine arrived today. Looks good.

I can't quite fit the plate so I can use both spirit levels, I will have to make do with just one of them.

I was out early this morning to catch the eclipse. I had some problems with the contrast between the bright and dark parts during the partial phase, to expose for the highlights or the shadows.

Also the lack of sharp detail in the moon kept making me think I was doing something wrong. My ideas on this is:

1; the sunlight is front on so there are no shadows caused by the lunar terrain
2; the light striking the moon during totallity is soft diffused light not direct sunlight.

Anyway I got few keepers. I must say that in my opinion photographs just don't do it justice, it was amazing to watch.

Jeff

Or you could get a vheap manual lens off ebay. I have used an smc m50 f1.7 with manual tubes. just posted some pics on Fickr actiually as I went down Cornwall for a week and forgot to take a macro lens.

Anyway all the best

I think i am right in saying that if your extn tube does NOT have electrical contacts then its only really suitable for lenses that have an aperature ring. As thats the only method to change the f stop and so would be of very limited use with DA lens

i am not sure if there are settings that need to be changed for an extension tube. I know with a manual lens/extn tube you just switch to manual focus and flash or manual on the dial, with aperature set by the lens aperture ring.

Does the extn tube have electrical contacts.

Still dont know why its ok in live view but not through the viewfinder unless maybe your lens is stopping down to its maximum which would make the viewfinder very dim but not effect live view.

Anyway hope you solve this issue

Next time remember I live in Plymouth and could get it for you.

I'd love to get my hands on a nearly new Z.

I have just remembered that i once left my camera bag on a bus in St Ives. Fives minutes later the bus hadn't moved and no one had taken it so I luckily had a nice day.
