Little Billy Wind.

Pictures what is known locally as "Billy Wynt Fach" or "Little Billy Wind" - part of an old windmill on the site, rebuilt as a folly by the Victorians. Billy has seen his fair share of sunsets !

Everyone remembers the fisheye ! I think that one will stay firmly in the bag. I'm planning on using the fa 50mm for the majority but may have a play with the 30mm and 70mm Sigma's if i get the opportunity.

Thanks all. I'll definately take the flash in case, but will try reflecting light first . I'll be shooting some time this week and will post some examples if they're not a total loss.

I've been asked to photograph a week old baby (well, volunteered by my wife actually)
I've agreed to give it a try, but I have zero experience with baby photos, so could anyone offer any advice ?

I was thinking, plain backgrounds (not going for high key stuff as it doesn't suit newborns). Lit by sunlight from window (will have to fashion a reflector as I don't own one). Finally trying to keep poses natural, will also go for the feet/hands close up with limited dof as they should be a crowd pleaser ! Not sure if the parents will want any photo's with the child but I'll have to look at some classic poses just in case.

Is this the general correct approach do you think ?

Also, I wont be charging for my services. I will charge for prints if they are happy with them, but just to cover my expenses. How much would you say an A4 print would cost to print at home ? (I have an Epson R285)

P.S. I'm off to work a night-shift shortly so may not be able to post from my phone, so will respond to any questions in the morning. Thanks in advance !!

I have the 700 also. Does the job nicely.

One thing I will say is that I would have rather it be priced a little lower than come with all the cases etc.
Why do I need a large padded plastic case for something so small ? And why do I need a leather case & carabina also ? Unless I wan't to look fashionable whilst rock climbing ???

The guy in the shop apologised to me that they only have turquoise left. Why should I care what colour it is ?

It's an effective product is all you need to know, the brand image dept. have gone way overboard.

I'm afraid a Welsh greeting may well sound like a Martian declaration of war.

If I need the fisheye to get em in then I'll leave the camera set to continuos shooting & lock the remote shutter down whilst I run away !!

I think the fact that it's the "best" image within the fortnight will mean that alot of people will leave it til late (just in case they take a fantastic photo between now & the closing date)

Even though I have no real time to shoot anything more before the closing date I still have time to play with my entry in post processing (and probably ruin it in the process) & you just never know, an alien spaceship could land in my garden & luckily I have a macro lens now to capture the little green men.
Although I'd probably be happier at having an image to auction to the highest media bidder rather than a possible winning competition entry !

It is not so simple !
An exact theme makes it simpler Then you concentrate. It is like a school.
If you are a proff, then you can allow yourself "simple task" of finding good sites without guidlines. You do it anyway anytime
So your theme tends to select out people, who can see and think createvly without the guiding help (theme) plus olso those, who are not much critical about themselves.

who knows, maybe I am wrong ? Aiki
Aiki, you're capable of producing very nice photos, we've all seen them. If your struggling with the lack of direction then why not set yourself a theme. You could look at some of the older competition themes, a word there might spark your imagination & before you know it you'll be out the door & snapping away.

Everyone has their way, I use Lightroom for the basic stuff and archiving.
Everything I make public or get printed does go through Photoshop though, just to make it perfect or be creative.

I'm also thinking of trying Phaseone for a change, just to see how it works.
I downloaded the trial of Phaseone capture pro & I was impressed with the results of the Raw conversion. It has the option of opening the image in Photoshop automatically after conversion, but it still saves a copy there & then to a nominated directory. It's no good for my workflow as I work on one image from raw to finish before beginning the next. Rather than raw conversion of all images first, then Photoshop. If your workflow is the latter then I'd suggest checking it out. That's the beauty of a free trial, no money is wasted !
