Thanks for posting the alternative.

I think my preference might be for the colour saturation and composition of the first one, just without the white area. The second one is slightly weaker in terms of saturation and the more distant shot also seems to reduce the impact.
I'd have to concur with John here. The blues in the first shot are really deep. Plus I prefer the increased perspective in the first shot, it leads the eye following a crooked path upwards into the frame, lingering on individual freflections & then continuing onwards. the white band is a bit of an anti climax once there though it's much more pleasing when I crop it by scrolling my browser.

RR nice shot , and yes you where right it was raining lol,i have a remote already it arived on sat so think i will just use that as to avoid touching the camera,rr how many shots did you take to compose this hdr?also was planing a trip down the bay 1 evening to get the millenium centre and of the norweigen church , yes there is some lovely architecture & artwork to shoot well i am of for 4 day now from end of tuesday so let me know if you want to meet but please be aware i am a total noob.
Don't apologise for being new to it, although 1600 iso is a schoolboy error ! - I've only taken up the hobby since about 5 months ago so I wont claim to be able to teach you much. The HDR above was 5 shots spaced 1.5 stops apart, there's no hard & fast rule about how many to take & how far apart, but you could spot meter the darkest & brightest areas & work out the dynamic range required from that. But if that's a bit too advanced for you at present & you're having issues with movement then I'd stick with taking 3 shots at 2 stops apart. Also try & reign yourself back when tonemapping, I still get carried away, you tweak & tweak & tweak til it becomes over the top. I'm trying to practice what I preach in that respect.

As for meeting up this week is not good I'm afraid, I was hoping to be free Friday or Saturday, but according to my wife we already have plans (which is news to me) But if you've got something specific in mind over the next couple of weeks, drop me a pm if you'd like me to come along.

I also really like the last shot. You're lucky to have friends who are so relaxed in front of a camera.

Plus you have a PM.

Shame I'm working tonight Carl or I'd meet you down there & you could try out my remote. It's only a cheapy one from china but it works fine.

I doubt you'll be going now as it's raining, but another good place to try is Cardiff bay. There's plenty of interesting architecture & artwork to point a camera at down there & it's also nicely floodlit at night.

Here's a daytime HDR of the millenium centre, it looks good at night with the light coming from the lettering (windows).

Tamrac expedition 4 here, swallows all my gear.

K20d, 10-17mm 14mm 30mm 50mm 70mm 70-300mm flash, filters, cleaning equip, spare batteries, remote etc...
Plus I then strap my tripod to it.

I'm looking for a smaller bag to just pack the K20d & 3 or 4 lenses ready for the summer as carrying all my kit everywhere may lead to a perspiration issue !!

I like the recurrent pattern with changing colours, unfortunately the blues are clipped in the purple formation which is a little destracting.
Great idea though & worth another try at the processing to get rid of the clipped colours.

There was a wider version posted, but as impotentspider has pointed out, Emily has copied the new version ver the original, so new visitors to the page will see an identical image, whereas George presumably has his browser set up to not refresh a page every time he visits & needs to manually refresh. -

Gearge, open page one of this thread & look at the first image, now press F5 & watch that pic reload to match the second version... Magic

EDIT: Forgot to say.. Very nice photo. Lovely springtime feel & those pinks are beautiful.
