I've checked various charity shops in the area & they never have any photographic stuff the 283's & older 285's have a trigger voltage of well over 200v & would fry the wireless triggers I've ordered I think.

I'm looking for some inexpensive flashes with manual control to use whilst I experiment with off camera flash. Not bothered about brand but they must be fully functional, have manual power settings & a trigger voltage of under 12v.

If anybody has anything suitable they want to get shot of then PM me with details & price please.

Thanks for looking.

Bob

These are very good indeed.

I'm now awaiting the smoke/bubble/water combo shots

Thanks all, I purposely left #5 til last as it's obviously the best of the bunch.

Shim, WB was a bit of a nightmare as there was a mixture of direct sunlight, cloud, & leaf canopy to deal with. Processing as shade wasn't helping. I may be able to sort it by spending a little time in getting a manual WB adj right.

I like number 2 also, due to the eye contact.

I spotted a squirrel earlier but the little blighter wouldn't stay still, I'll have to include a few peanuts in my camera bag I think.

Went for a stroll through a local nature reserve earlier, thought I'd share some of my shots. Disclaimer: There are plenty of guys here who take cracking bird photos, please don't expect these to be the same standard as I'm no twitcher & wide angle is more my thing. All taken with a Sigma 70-200mm (although a kingfisher flew past me at one point which is justification enough to buy a 500mm & a camo suit I think )

I use an Acer 5920 (about £400), which I upgraded to 4GB Ram and changed the Sata 1 HD to a 320GB Sata 2 drive which sped things up immensely. I'm sure that anything similar from a respectable brand would be just as good, i.e. Toshiba, Dell, HP etc.,

I find the screen okay, it profiles reasonably well, but like all cheaper laptops it has a narrow viewing angle. For my "serious" home use I have a 1600 x 1200 20.1" HP SIPS screen and I also run an external 1TB Sata 2 drive via a PCI card adaptor to maintain the 300GB transfer rate for all my archived photos, I keep my current (approx last 6 months) and best images on the laptop drive, I also use a proper keyboard and mouse (wireless) and a USB tablet.

I'm fairly computer savvy so I don't worry overly much about it all.
I have a very similar setup to Richard, I "dock" my laptop at home onto a notebook cooler Plug in my usb hub which spurs off to printers, external hdd, tablet etc & plug in my 22" monitor. Vista does a good job of extending the desktop across the 2 monitors so I have plenty of space to move things around. I open PS on the external monitor & use the laptop screen for other stuff (fantastic for following tutorials etc.) you can also open a 2nd realtime image window with PS, so you could be zoomed in doing some cloning/burning for example & on the other screen have the full image open to see the overall effect.

Plus of course I can easily pull the plug & take my laptop with me when I need it.
