Am I right in thinking it needs to be a Pentax "pro centre" in order to benefit from the 2 year warranty ?

Or buy a slightly larger bag that'll take your 16-50mm also. It's the cheapest option

If you go to Pentax UK the front page shows a K7 and states 126 weatherproof seals and immediately below it links to the competition!

A red herring? or a deliberate move to make you read the specs?
That's a picture of a K-7 with grip though... there must be 49 seals in the grip alone

It seems the newer cheapo triggers are rated to only 12v trigger voltage. There are several flavours of these "cactus" triggers so just warning the OP to be careful.

Shim, you're right, they are mega cheap to replace so it's no biggie if they do get toasted really but it may mean a whole new set (transmitter & recievers) if you can't identify & replace the toasted one with one the Exact same spec.

I've got an old high voltage flash here but intend to use that with a dumb optical trigger if it's needed.

I'm in the process of trying to put together a budget strobist kit so have been looking into it a little. You can use any brand flash but make sure they have a low trigger voltage or you may end up frying your triggers.
However one thing to look out for is that Minolta/Sony dedicated flashes have a different hot shoe.

The Nikon & Canon mount versions of the Sigma 10-20mm have inbuilt motors & will therefore be quieter than your 10-20 that is screw drive only.

The newer version of the 10-20 (constant f3.5) should have an inbuilt motor for all brands so start saving if that is really important to you.

I disagree Shim, you do need to weed out the user reviews to get any benefit from them, but you can normally judge by the quality of the wording etc. which is worth valuing.

That link you posted, it was tested

I think I use a PT-04 I'll check and see. Nothing has fried yet. It seemed to me there was only one manufacturer of the cheapies in any case and a whole load of repackaging went on.

I made the mistake that all pt-04's were equal but it seems there are various versions and each incarnation is a little different. Early ones could take high voltages & the 2nd versions only 12v, it's a bit of a minefield really, but granted they are cheap

I have a sigma 530dg super which is great, but I've bought the 3 reciever set so was hoping to pick up a couple of manual only units to accompany it.

Cheap set of PT-04's from ebay, budget way in really, if I get good results then I can always upgrade & sell these on.

It's a bit confusing to be honest as the ad states flashes under 12v trigger voltage only, but goes on to say older 283 & 285's to be used by pc sync only. I would have thought they are straight wired to the hotshoe though so would expect to fry the reciever.

edit: found a few voltages here
