a little room for a title on the top left and room for a paragraph along the bottom...

Well I like it. There is lots to see, and it has a mysterious air to it. I love the little boy in the fruit bowl reaching out to the cat.
I'd love to know what the story is about.
Maybe you have the new JK Rowling in the family?

Don, as you asked for feedback I'll be honest, I'm usually in the "if you can't say anything nice, then say nothing at all" camp.
So here are my opinions, right or wrong !

Canvas effect is at odds with the fine detail in the net curtains.

Right hand side of image far too blue. I know it's meant to be lit by the
moon but it's too saturated for me.

Lighting is all over the place - to really fool the eye with these types of images you need to get the lighting spot on so your brain doesn't shout "hang on a minute !" - Mainly the lack of any blue highlights on objects on the left third of the image & the strong top lighting on the small boy are the main offenders. I see you've given a localised glow around the boy to simulate a light source but it's still at odds with the brightness of his hair etc.

Pro's spend hundreds of hours creating a convincing composite image with immense attention to detail, I don't know if I'd have the patience, so well done for trying (especially as it's a family project)

Well, I can't give away her stories..but I got no probs sharing the photo detials.

I shot this using three lights (the room was a brightly lit kitchen...
Two lights with orange gels color, one not gelled.

main light gridded and barn doored, fill light bounced off the ceiling. the moon light was on a boom, pushed through the open window, aimed back inside (it appears blue due to the cameras white balance.

this one was shot jpeg, because it's just a test shot...

but I need to reshoot the boy with the same color lighing as the kitten, and the kitten tucked his tail under, and I'd prefer to have it hanging over the edge of the counter..

the moon was composited in over the studio light...
the painted on cavas effect is Required, as that's what Gerri wants.
also it's a dream.

I like the boy in the fruit bowl, however the lighting on him is wrong for the picture, needs some blue, and he is too bright compaired to the rest of the image.

It certainly has atmosphere.

David has a point here i think but watch out, if you make the boy in the fruit bowl dimmer you wouldn't see him so good. maybe just taking away a bit of the highlight in his hair would do the trick.

I also read in your comment it's a dream but I don't see that in your photo, I don't know if that the point or not.
Also the paint effect is hardly noticable

I think it's great and I thought of a dream before reading that it is supposed to be a dream. I like the eery lighting on the boy/fruitbowl/cat. Would be a great shot without the moon as well (but I guess that the moon is required).

However... as RR said the blue light is a bit too intensive. Then, why the cat is so sad? Seems to be really depressed and frightened
The 'canvas' idea is superb and the boy reaching out sitting on fruits, wood furniture - it creates a dreamy, tale-like atmosphere.
