Bought a Dell 2209WA for £170 on ebay and recommend it highly. Reckon it was bankrupt stock as it was new in a sealed box. Keep an eye on e-bay for the Dell. There are refurbidhed ones at good prices. Before that had a good Samsung TN screen but the Dell is the way to go.

Just read the "stupid comments" thread and it certainly doesn't reflect my experience of the forum. My stupid questions have been very kindly received. It's always simple when you know how.

Thanks for the reply Barrie. It's obvious when you think about it. Feel a bit dim for asking now!

Noise Ninja - I'm told - is very good. Look on the Luminous Landscape site for recommendations.

Sharpening guidelines from Scott Kelby (one of those Photoshop guru guys)

Subject Amount Radius Threshold
Soft subjects 150 1 10
Portraits 75 2 3
Moderate sharpening 225 0.5 0
Maximum sharpening 65 4 3
All-purpose sharpening 85 1 4
preparing for Web 400 0.3 0

Spelling 9.5 out of 10. I hope this forum isn't too pedantic about spelling; though may God's wrath fall on any who use txt spk.

Spring. From too much brown to too much green!

I haven't gone through all the thread but I certainly agree about a quieter shutter.

What about a depth of field scale in the read out?

In fact these two features coupled with any decrease in size would do it for me. Forget filters and anything else that can be done in Photoshop, i just want a camear that makes the basic easier and doesn't overcomplicate the system with extra and unnecessary features. More is not always better

Just been looking for something in my box of old bits and bobs - you know the one, it's got old manual "injector" cable releases, neck straps with "proper fittings" even got some unexposed rolls of film in mine. Everyone's got one haven't they? Anyway, I found a couple of linear polarisers so they're coming out for the manual primes, but I also found some of my old Hoya black and white filters: orange and yellow. Just wondering - could they be of any use at all with digital?

Forget COM 1 I've sorted that one out! USB drivers intsalled and Spyder calibrator listed under instrument/port. It's what happens after I press start measurement that's the problem now. Up comes a grey screen and it freezes.

Well now it works ................ almost!

The software now calls up the calibration screen, displays a grey screen and then freezes. The three fingered salute to bringing up Task Manager shows the calibration as not running. Any suggestions gratefully received. Meanwhile back to another session of head scratching.
Cheers
