Filters

Just been looking for something in my box of old bits and bobs - you know the one, it's got old manual "injector" cable releases, neck straps with "proper fittings" even got some unexposed rolls of film in mine. Everyone's got one haven't they? Anyway, I found a couple of linear polarisers so they're coming out for the manual primes, but I also found some of my old Hoya black and white filters: orange and yellow. Just wondering - could they be of any use at all with digital?

Must stop myself falling over that edge all the time!

Try them and see. You may be surprised!

I gladly welcome C & C's. Being foggy minded they really help me learn.

The linear polarisers will give a small exposure difference but is still very usable, the colour filters are not need with digital.

If you're going to use colour filters on digital then make sure the white balance is set to something other than Auto, otherwise the camera will just try and correct for anything you put in front of the lens and you'll be back to square one. Generally most people do any colour shifts in PP these days and skip the filters, doesn't mean you have to though...

The L-PL will cut the light like a ND, but won't mdoulate it like a C-PL (on digital).
Colour filters are pointless, other than to play around (on digital).

If you use film then they can be very useful.
