There is an FA 85mm soft lens for sale at Ffordes if anyone is interested. I was tempted but think I would rather get softening in Lightroom, but softening isn’t apparently like out of focus it just diffuses the light whilst retaining definition and works best with back lighting; Lee Filters do a range of square soft filters which is another option to get the diffuse effect.

I have just remembered a Photoshop technique of layering and blending a sharp image with a softened version for landscape and could ŵork for portrait so might give a try in an idle moment.

The only 50mm prime I have now is the f2.8 macro which does me for dog portraits, I too am awaiting the new 85mm but lust after the 77mm Limited and cannot justify both.

Nice, Gareth, my fave is the last one and well done for finding some good subjects. I love mist for atmospheric shots so this morning I hoped to get some with watery sun at the local deer park. Unfortunately there was a walking event on so the place was crawling with people and not a deer to be seen! I schlepped back to the car to swop my telephoto for some other lenses but by then the frost had melted and the mist turned to thick fog so the camera didn’t come out the bag all day.

Don't you just love banks?:
A few years ago the firm I worked for went bust with nothing left to pay my salary nor redundancy payment; there were no other jobs going so I set up on my own and asked the bank if they would tide me over if I got short. An acting manager said head office turned me down despite having been a good customer for a number of years, but he said he would ignore head office and extended me credit. As it turned out I didn’t need it but I never forgot his kindness, sadly the next time I saw him he was back behind the counter and a keen young thing had taken over.

The postscript is I would probably have switched banks without this gesture so they would not have benefitted from my company account growing year by year, needless to say they keep offering me loans and credit now when I don’t need it.

Apart from this rare example they live up to the adage that banks will lend you a brolly when the sun shines but take it back when it rains.

Ooh... my care package has arrived! Plenty of heft to this box. Will have to inspect and lay out everything in photos for y'all later.
Have already had a quick look; everything looks pretty serviceable. One or two little niggles but for the price paid, I'm happy.
Okay, so I got around to this sooner than anticipated! Below you'll find the haul!

For those who might struggle to see what's there it comprises of:
2x ME Super (look a bit rough 'n' ready but everything feels tight, not much corrosion anywhere, looks as though they've both had new mirror seals, but not body seals (which I will change). Shutters fire, winders work as anticipated. Need to try with batteries shortly but looks good so far!
Kiron 28mm f/2. Sounds as though the spring for the 'A' setting button has come loose, and there's a little corrosion to the 'A' button itself. No worries, once it's in place I won't need to tinker with it anyway, at least on my K-70. Exceptionally clean looking. Can hear something tinkling around when moving this lens, which is probably the spring for the pin! Focus is smooth, however.
Bell and Howell 70-220mm and 2x TC. TC looks good, zoom unfortunately has a fair amount of lens separation so will be donated elsewhere. TC looks in good working order.
SMC-M 50mm f/1.7. Unfortunately a reasonable amount of fungus in there at a glance, albeit light. I'll look to dismantle and repair this one and, all going well, may extend to try and salvage the A pin on the Kiron. Feels nice though, everything is smooth.
Bell and Howell flash. Curious to try this more than anything, has some colour filters and a 'wide angle adapter' so will probably give it a whirl.
Cokin 58mm (I think) adapter and a couple of filters. Not sure what the clear one is about just yet so I'll do some digging. The 'blue' one could perhaps be an ND? Not sure, outside my knowledge-set!
Weston Master V light meter. Interested to try this out, probably won't keep but you never know!
Couple of other odds-and-sods, including a blower brush, rubber lens hood, Kodak 'film pod', few cases total (one older looking Pentax leather with a nice looking purple velvet interior).
Manuals for practically everything here, less the lenses!
That Westonmaster looks in nice condition, I bet it hasn’t been used much. Sometimes the selenium cell needs replacing but there are people who will do that.

A great set evoking the wide open atmosphere up there, a long drive for me alas but last visited a year ago and loved it.

They are beautiful, gorgeous colours. I have a pal in Oslo who uses film and a scanner, and a whole range of film cameras from tiny pocket cameras to a wooden plate camera. A bit far from Trondheim though!

Although I have two well-known horse racecourses nearby, Warwick and Stratford upon Avon, I have never been to a meeting, but it occurred that they would be good for photographic opportunities. I would like some dramatic shots of the race and jumps, from low level if possible, but realise that access is restricted as may be the angles of view. Also some shots of the winners' enclosure and things going on. Does anyone have experience they can pass on, best lenses to take and so on? I realise a tripod would be a no-no but how about a monopod for long telephoto? Are there restrictions on taking "professional" equipment?

Well that's all the decorations back in the loft, and the musical Santa is back in his box. It says he dances as well but all that entails is a slow shifting from one foot to the other accompanied by strange mechanical noises - much like me really. Every year whilst I am up there we have the same conversation: “ isn’t it time we took this baby cot and high chair to the charity shop?” “oh let me think about it, maybe a bit later.” “But the grandchildren are both at universities now!” “ Leave them!”

I would also add if you are using live view then turn off focus peaking or all you get is noise.
