Fair point David, these are part of a series exploring how time and the weather are gradually wiping away the lettering, in an analogy of the loss in human memory. The subject matter I want to focus on is the texture, lichens and other growth rather than the full details of the person interred which are often illegible anyway, and with the idea that these could be printed quite large.

I would like to hear how you find it! I masked half a photo to see if there was any difference in the surface or colour intensity.

I was recommended to use the Hahnemuhle spray by a print expert at the RPS but there was a problem obtaining it at the time so I bought the Permajet spray instead. Permajet produce two different protective sprays for gloss (Permaseal) and for matt (Permafix). I have tried the matt version which gave a nice even spray without any large droplets but didn’t notice any difference in the colour or shade intensity.

I cannot see what finish the Hahnemuhle gives so I would recommend testing it on some small photos first.

Gareth, I find pixel shift works fine normally in Lightroom but for some reason the ones I took above wouldn't sharpen. There could be a couple of factors, I was using autofocus in live-view in rather poor light and the exposure times were between 1/4 to 1/10 sec so maybe a tiny bit of wobble although they look fine on the back of the camera. The Unsharp Mask in Photoshop has some sort of smart function which I think compensates for whatever is causing blur because there are other menu options to correct blur caused by camera movement and lens issues.

If you are shooting a static object like a building or still life it is definitely worth giving it a try, use a sharp lens, get everything right and the detail is amazing.

Last January I bought a Wacom Pro tablet as the pundits reckoned it was the dog's b******s for rendering in post production software but after a week I gave up with it and packed it away, but with the latest lockdown decided to give it another go. In the meantime my iMac had undergone a factory reset so I needed to download the software again and that is where the fun started; the software wouldn't connect with the tablet. An email from support detailed a long elaborate process delving into the inner workings of the computer which of course also failed to produce results after several attempts, so a pithy response was called for describing what I thought of their product. I also tried it on an old Windows desktop and it worked there straight away but I cannot access my photos on that one because the disk they are on would need to be reformatted. So, if you are using an Apple computer running on the latest software don't bother with getting one of these it just will not work.

Just heard from a relative working in a surgery that the contact process to give jabs to vulnerable patients is in chaos. The system generates a list who are contacted by phone, if they don’t answer and the call ends they are recorded as having been contacted and cannot be called again. In many cases there is no means of leaving a message so large numbers of the most vulnerable are being bypassed.

Today, I broke open a couple of Chinese fortune cookies that had been hanging around since our last Chinese takeaway (during the November lockdown!). In the first was "An unexpected news brings you surprises and happiness". In the second was "A holiday is in sight". Any suggestions where Mrs L and I can go in the next month or two??

I hear the Dorset coast can be very nice!

There is a mint condition gold LX with crocodile skin and matching f1.2 50mm lens on eBay for £8,850.00 (free postage!) if anyone is interested. Now that would give you street cred!

To be honest it's impossible to see if they are sharp because of the size.

Pixel shift is something I have always meant to try but never got round to as my preferred software (DXO Photolab) doesn't process it.
Fair enough, here are crops from each which I hope will show how much detail is captured.

They were all taken on a tripod with a DFA 24-70mm at the longer end and aperture f8 to overcome the difference in distances between the centre and edges of the frame, in live view and a 2 sec. delay on the shutter.

Still watering the Christmas tree. Never had one that's sucked up so much water. Hardly any needle drop, though, even though it's a traditional Norwegian spruce, not one of those new-fangled fancy types.

Mine never needs watering - just pack it away for next year!
