Little Brother and Big Brother

The beautiful Pentax MX, introduced in 1976 as professional system camera, with a range of backs, drives, flash system and of course legendary lenses.

It was my first Pentax (and I was lucky enough to get it in black) so to come across this one in such beautiful condition was an unexpected treat.




Introduced four years after the MX the LX was the highpoint of engineering in manual focus bodies from Pentax. A wider array of system accessories were introduced with the LX - including some of the best viewfinders ever made. The off the film TTL metering was incredibly advanced and accurate (even with flash) and the camera was produced for around 21 years with several minor updates and some special editions.

I purchased 2 used LX bodies in the mid 1980's and they had plenty of use for wedding and portrait photography. This copy is in lovely condition and has the rare FA-2 viewfinder.

MX prices are going through the roof on E bay at present. The bubble will burst eventually but right now, if you've no use for one, sell it !

Well it's better than the K1000 so I'd imagine some people finally realised it.

My silver MX will go up for sale now I've got hold of this little beauty - I've noticed some Pentax manual bodies have been creeping up in price on Ebay, so that's probably where I'll list it.

There is a mint condition gold LX with crocodile skin and matching f1.2 50mm lens on eBay for £8,850.00 (free postage!) if anyone is interested. Now that would give you street cred!

There's also a Pentax LX Titan edition body for a much more reasonable £1750 (or best offer) if the bling is not your thing

Lovely pair... as they say. Mine look a little more used. I have a chrome and a black MX, so that I can have colour film in one and BW in the other.

The gold LX is foul, but the Titan is very tempting (but not that tempting!). Shame it doesn't have it's matching A50/1.2 lens...
