In a recent post Richandfleur included a link to a DSLR video tutorial. On ISO settings it said to avoid any multiples of 125 - i.e. 125, 250, etc as these will create noise. Anyone come across this before? Anyone know why?

If you are after basic tourist handy cam then all good, but if you are after a specific style then a handy cam just can't offer what a dslr can provide. Once again, hence the appeal of dslr video compared to the equivalent level video specific interchangeable lens camera.

If you are after basic tourist handy cam then all good, but if you are after a specific style then a handy cam just can't offer what a dslr can provide. Once again, hence the appeal of dslr video compared to the equivalent level video specific interchangeable lens camera.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear - it is the way it works not what it can do. The DSLR just isn't designed to be handled in the same way. Motorised zoom? Pan and zoom in one motion? Basic stuff.A handy cam is essentially the equivalent of a bridge camera.
If you want the video specific equivalent of a DSLR then you are talking significant prices, hence the appeal of a dslr for video.

I've just experimented with the video function on my K50 and it seems completely pointless, a seriously retrograde experience compared to a dedicated video camera. Why is there an 'arms race' in this field? For years I have used a Sony camcorder with a 20x Zeiss zoom lens which feels right when held (unlike a DSLR) for panning etc. Holding in the palm of one hand, one finger control works the power zoom both in and out, and at variable speed, whilst the thumb operates the on/off. The camcorder is properly designed to do one thing very well. A DSLR should be likewise and resources spent on more useful functions instead.

Having seen the stunning results of a full frame I would be seriously tempted to change brands if Pentax don't produce. I can hear the siren call of a Nikon D610!
Although I am early into DSLR it strikes me that the camera can be treated a loss leader because once you have bought into a system then the money is in the lenses and accessories which will inevitably follow. A brand switch is an expensive business so it follows that a manufacturer should really look at the wider implications of brand loyalty rather than just analysing how competitive the full frame market is. Who knows, in ten years maybe APS-C will be just for compacts.

Oh hurrah! A great rant on the futility of photographers aspiring to be have their works classified as art. The author expresses everything I want to say but so much better. Photography is a fantastic way of finding beauty or drama and saying 'this is our world in all it's glorious variety and detail - take a look and gaze in wonder' and many photographers develop an artist's eye for subject matter, colour and composition, but it has to be a true record of what the human eye would see otherwise it is phoney.

I was planning on getting the Pentax teleconverter to use with the DA 55-300 F4-5.8 ED WR but now having second thoughts. Anyone know what the Sigma teleconverters are like?

The new Pentax lenses are 'optimized' for APS-C so how will they work with full frame? Presumably the old lenses for film cameras are ok but would the new lenses need to be replaced/duplicated?
