Just the crude model in a display case, not even a title or description. The reps could tell me nothing except that there will be some more full frame lenses coming out in the run-up to the launch. Understandably they don't want to give anything away to the competition.

When I asked about deals on lenses the Pentax people pointed me to the LCE stand but it was so heaving I couldn't get near. I was lucky to have a great chat with a Manfrotto ambassador - I think it must have been Victoria Hillman - with advice about a backpack but this developed into her specialism of macro photography of insects and reptiles which involves long treks in inhospitable places all over the world. Tempted by a photo printer at the show deals but the Canons are so huge I don't know where it would go. (I already have 2 copiers and an A1 plotter) Apart from a soggy sandwich the only things I bought despite an itchy credit card were equipment insurance and a copy of Outdoor Photography for £3.00!

Further to my earlier comments I would add that the Pentax rep was helpful and volunteered the 560 telephoto for me to handle. It's just that the display needed to be more eye-catching - some big graphics and images promoting the WR for instance.

The stand was poorly located and pretty low-key, so took a long time to find. The full-frame model didn't have any sort of caption or description so a visitor would have no idea what it was - I had to ask. I came away seriously wondering whether I should have gone for Nikon where a rep spent a long time demonstrating the D750 to me and lenses with the compatible teleconverters, although it was interesting that not many are WR which is a strong plus for Pentax.

It was interesting to handle the different models; as a K50 owner I was surprised how much heavier the K3 is, which would be a significant issue as a walk-around camera. Also, the KS-2 being a bit smaller didn't fit so well in my hands.

Both the Sigma and Tamron stands admitted that none of their new lenses will have Pentax mounts due to the higher cost and limited market which is worrying; the Pentax guy said Ricoh recognised this and intended introducing more new full frame lenses to fill the gaps although it is unlikely to include the more extreme long focal length fast lenses used in wildlife photography.

I have tried Adobe Elements because it came free in a package and I keep meaning to master it, but I usually fall back on Picasa for general editing, again a free download. This does straightening and cropping really well, and you can also tweak highlights, shadows, sharpening, colour temperature and fill light with slider controls. This is fine for most shots and being so easy to use I can edit a load of shots in an evening.

I agree, my comments related to the photo which is probably not a good demonstration of the lens's capabilities. On a slight tangent I have picked up some old threads referring to longer lenses including in 2005 a Pentax 650-1300mm zoom (!) so it would be interesting to see if these make a come-back although they will be way out my price range.

I disagree, if you zoom in a bit of the full size photo there is no definition of the roof textures. It will be interesting to compare this lens with the Sigma 150-500 which I have just bought for less than a third the price.

This KS2 looks like a response to the adverse reactions to the 'bling' elements of KS1 whilst keeping the best bits

The lenses look tasty, especially as rated for full frame so the longer zoom will effectively be 225-675mm on APS-C cameras. Good to see the gap in long telephotos being filled.
