Thanks again,

Firstly, I might be wrong but did they recently release a new 55/300 wr lens to replace the old one?
With this fantastic reach are you always going to need the use of a tripod to obtain a steady shot, looking at some of the pictures of the lens it looks like it extends to the extent of being top heavy, and as I have said I would like a walk about lens to use on the K50.
Mind you I have viewed some of the shots made with this lens and they look great.
Will take you advice and buy new, for the extra £100 it's not really worth taking the chance.
Thanks
GBR.
The one that you are thinking of as a update is the hd which is basically aimed at the ff camera the one you require is still going strong can't see them stop making it with all the cropped frames that are about
I don't think the new 55-300 lens is FF, it's designed to accompany the K70 and needs one of the latest bodies like K-1 & K70 to operate the electronic aperture.

I don't know what software you are using but Lightroom has a one-click feature to eliminate fringing.

Has any body tried a circular polariser on this lens and does it vignet at 28mm?

Also any experiences with using the Lee 100mm system at 28mm?

Paul
I use a Marumi circular polariser of the same diameter as the lens and haven't noticed any vignetting. Have a Cokin 100mm system but not tried it yet on this lens.

There's probably still limited knowledge on this one, but I've been looking for a 20-35mm f/4 FA lens and perhaps the 20mm f/2.8 as starting points. There's also the MF Samyang 14mm f/2.8 that is fairly inexpensive and just might be worth having a go with.
Not legacy lenses but Laowa have a FF 15mm macro and are introducing a 12mm f4 lens shortly; both are manual focus available in K-mount and I will be interested to see what the 12mm lens will cost.

Another consideration is that the K-1 works best with full frame lenses which are expensive whereas the other Pentax models with a smaller APS-C sensor have a wide range of excellent lenses available at much more affordable prices.

You are probably right McBrian but I don't find LR as simple and intuitive to use. It's just a quick and easy process to copy images from the sd card into a dedicated storage facility first to make sure that you don't inadvertently lose them.

Lightroom will not retain or alter the original image, just record the changes, and 'import' is just for editing and filing so don't rely on it to keep the original RAW file. I use a dedicated hard drive for photos onto which I copy the ones I want to keep before opening Lightroom, and if possible use a second back-up like a cloud service as well. That way you can clear your sd card when it gets full. I have found that if you move the original or change its title after editing then Lightroom will not associate it with the editing changes, so best to do those first. My hard drive has files for each year within which are files for each month like a calendar, and I just move the images from the sd card into the relevant month before editing. For special events like a holiday or wedding I would create a dedicated sub file within the relevant month. In Lightroom you can tag each image so they can be sorted into groups which are independent of where they are actually stored, and finally after editing I 'save as' the final image as a jpeg.

Thanks once again!
I actually purchased he Dummies book to DSLR and couldn't really associate with it, spent half the book talking equipment and computers
So can anyone recommend a better beginners book please?
And bk to the lens issue. Do you think it would be better to start with the 55-300 or the 18-135 and get rid of the 18-55?
Thanks again everyone!
It seems that a lot of 'beginners' books' are overfilled with computer stuff, I got one from The Works which has at least half it's content about Photoshop. This one I found useful: The Beginner's Photography Guide published by DK; several contributors so no named author, usually found in WH Smith or Waterstones.

Looks a bargain for someone, Billdad, so why are you selling so soon after buying it?

I would just try it in RAW on a semi-automatic setting like AV or TAV and just gradually work through the manual, and use a basic processing programme to see what can be done with the images. It is pretty daunting as the camera is designed to be modified to suit all different situations but most of these can be picked up as you go along. If it helps the manual can be downloaded to an iPad etc. from the Ricoh website
