A while ago I saw one of my work photos on someone else's website. As I didn't get a response I threatened their website designer with legal action for breaching copyright, even though his client had provided the photo, and got immediate action.

Cleaning the sensor is not so bad with the Pentax kit as long as you can stop your hand shaking! I have managed this a couple of times with the K50. When changing lenses if possible I do it in the car or under shelter as the wind will blow in dust, and keep the body pointing down. First loosen the lens cap of the new lens so that it can be whipped onto the old lens quickly to leave it exposed as little as possible, as dust on the lens can transfer into the body.

My favourite gripe is I don't understand why bodies don't have a protective iris just inside the lens mount and which covers the opening when a lens is removed. Putting on a lens would open up the iris and a menu control could open it for cleaning. Cheap pocket cameras have them on the front of their lenses so must be possible.

That's a temporary 'fix' sorry.
It's failing.

What's weird/disgusting is Pentax are still selling these new today. For the lucky ones this fails within the 2 year warranty period.
Disinformation here, the K30 is no longer produced but a very small number being sold by retailers at hyped prices probably old stock.

But they used to have 7.5% up to about 2012 and Sony (3rd place in 2013 with 7.1%) have almost dropped out of DSLR's and moved to mirrorless.

But at that time Ricoh was putting its efforts into the medium format range, sales of which won't appear in DSLR comparative sales.

Thanks Gareth, I thought a cable setup would take less space in the bag for using flash in the field; I.e. with the camera on a tripod I could hand hold the flash for fill-in or close-ups.

I want to connect a flash using the X-sync socket on the camera and cable, but am confused about what adaptor to fit on the other end of the cable. There are three listed on the Pentax website but all say they are designed for attaching to the hot shoe - I.e. If the camera doesn't have the socket, not for the other end with the flashgun. Any ideas? Also, can I still use the camera in manual mode?

The K-S1 is a good deal and a nice camera.

I wouldn't touch a K50 due to the breaking aperture mechanism.
Never had a problem with mine, it's a fine camera. And WR too.

Having some Pentax lenses shouldn't necessarily be a big factor in picking the K-1 as you will probably buy new FF lenses anyway, so it's down to your preferred system rather than cost. I use the K-1 with a 28-105mm lens primarily, but with other heavier lenses for specific tasks. The camera is heavier than my K50 although it handles well and I quickly got used to it. For the first time I am using manual settings almost as default, with the top dial set to ISO I have instant access to the three variables without having to go into the menu. The green button gives a reading which I can tweak to suit, and keep an eye on the exposure indicator without faffing about with the +- button. Sometimes images from the standard zoom are not very sharp but I have put this down to a polariser which I left on but turned 'off' when not needed ; it is an expensive filter (Marumi) and I don't understand why it does this so only put it on now when actually needed. I mention this because I was disappointed with my first trials of pixel shift but since removing the filter I have better results. Biggest difference I have noticed is the dynamic range, quite awesome; in Lightroom I can pull out details in shadow and noise gets smoothed away like magic. Great for interiors especially churches as well as contrasty sunsets. For a family day out though I still use the K50 with kit lens because it is so much lighter, and it's really the lenses that make the difference, It will be interesting to see the new FF prime lenses coming next year. The lack of a flash meant I bought the little lightweight AF201 just to keep handy in the bag and that's fine although won't trigger an off-camera flash like a built-in one.

PS I should also mention the wifi which linked to a mini iPad gives great remote control, and a really large live view with the facility to focus wherever you touch the screen.
