What I have found is that the rechargeable AA batteries don't hold the charge for as long as the Pentax battery so if the camera has stayed in the bag for a while it is always best to check them first! Same problem with flash batteries.

What incompetence! This sounds like they want to control the published images more than just crowd inconvenience. No way would I leave a 2 grand lens anywhere except in the car boot. Is there anything on the website about restrictions?

PS just read the conditions, cameras Incl. phones can only be used on practice days. And use of cameras etc will be posted at the gates.

PPS I don't suppose that every time you hit the ball you want to be deafened by Canon fire!

Thanks ClaudiaM, the SSD storage is probably the way to go, but to have the full option in an imac is a serious cost premium. Given that I use an external SSD for my photos and a separate drive for work archive material I plumped for the top option with 2TB fusion drive which has some SSD incorporated. Also uprated the memory from 8 to 16 MB, so thanks to everyone for your helpful advice and I await delivery on Monday!

Going back to the issue of filters, the Lee Filters SW150 system is designed for ultra wide angle lenses and has a special mount for the Pentax 15-30mm. When I bought mine from SRB Photographic the boss told me that if one didn't fit they could make/adapt one that did - "it is what we do". 11mm might be too much of a stretch but it could be worth seeing what is done for other manufacturers' lenses in this regard.

PS a SW150 adaptor is made for the Canon 11-24mm full frame lens so maybe something could be done for the Irix.

A power cut this morning abruptly put a stop to work so I wandered around the garden to see what was about. Look closely and there are some amazing creatures just waiting for the magic of macro, and here is what I found.

All taken with a K1/100mm WR Macro lens on a tripod in natural light. For the last four a Marumi Achromat Macro 200 (+5) filter was added to the lens.

I think Pentax are also feeling the effects of the second hand market. They're one of the best for backwards compatibility so the sale of new lenses isn't going to be as strong as some of their competitors.

Personal example: I have no need to buy a 70-200 or 15-30 (or 150-450) since I have lenses that can do any excellent job for less than a quarter of the price. I can make do with a 60-250 for most of my telephoto needs (and also have an 80-320 if I didn't want a heavy bag). Therefore the only reason I'd be swayed is if I was to encounter a very silly price for any of the new kit.
Not sure I agree with this, given the high image quality possible with the new bodies it makes sense to get the best available lenses designed for them. I have found the new 15-30 and 24-70 lenses in particular give great images with colours that really pop, and well worth the outlay. Not got around to the 70-200 but I could be tempted sometime!

Austin America - what a vulgar pimped model, and a Honda engine! What were they thinking of?
My first car was the posh version, the Wolseley 1100 in two-tone green/white.
