I have a question: does HSS only work when exposing for ambient light? The reason I ask is I just tried a very underexposed setting indoors, with 1/250 sec in HSS; result, no flash apparent in the image although it did fire so the same as if there was no flash. Same thing at 1/200 (sync speed for K1) and the flash illuminated correctly.

In that case Algi, convince me not to buy the A* 135mm!

Has anyone owned this one?
I have resisted the 70-200mm because 135mm would cover that area for me at much less weight and have been browsing, so it is serendipity that this thread has come. Lenses I never knew existed! There are a couple of A*135mm f1.8 lenses on the US eBay at four figure sums which I don’t know whether reflect quality or rarity. Clearly it’s time Ricoh got their skates on with rolling out the new primes!

It’s massive! cinegearpro.co.uk but no K mount. They do have a more modest 35mm K mount though but we are more spoiled for choice at that size.

You can get a dvd writer for around £25 at Curry’s which is a lot less than the Apple one. I bought a Samsung one a few years ago which works fine with the Mac and it loaded Silkypix ok. Maybe there are even better deals around if you are quick.

Ps as you are just down the road from Wellesbourne you are welcome to borrow mine if you prefer.

Thank you, those are some very interesting images (the second pic demonstrates the shift impressively well). I don't have any express need for a shift lens but there's a certain itch at the back of my brain for stuff like this
It’s called gear acquisition syndrome! Know how it feels.

The 28-105mm can be thought of as a high quality kit lens, solidly built and ideal if you only want the one lens to walk around with and I have never had a problem with shutter shock or whatever. I have got pin sharp results and nicely blurred background at wide aperture, and excellent interior shots with poor available light.

Like most here I have a wish list and generally wait until either the Photography Show or Black Friday now, so I wonder what advantage there is for retailers as folks like me are now holding off from large items In between the special offer weekends.

Ditto in Lightroom and probably other PP software as well. That gives you the option to add copyright with your name to an online image or omit for prints.

I don’t know how IQ would compare, I am guessing that the Pentax lens will be very good. In it’s favour are unrestricted adjustment and according to reviews ‘built like a tank’. The Samyang on the other hand will give me 24mm instead of 28mm which is a bonus for interiors, and also tilt which will be fun to play with. A pro architectural photographer recommended the Samyang over the third (and very expensive) option of a Schneider TS as she had tried the latter and was disappointed with the IQ.

If I ever come across a really pristine copy of the Pentax lens I might be tempted, although I am a bit of an obsessive when it comes to condition so a long shot. As Canon and Nikon produce a range of pro quality shift lenses it would be nice if Pentax followed suit with at least one update.

Thanks Jak that gave me food for thought, reviews are good and I found a couple of clean copies on eBay. However today I just thought I would check SRS and saw the Samyang has a generous reduction to £625.50 so have taken a punt.
