Since we are all showcasing flower shots just now here are a few from a set I am compiling using the 85mm soft focus lens (again).

I can see a great deal of effort has gone into this, and it looks good. I have just been overhauling my own photo website so know what it is like, I too mixed potentially commercial work with everything else but realised it was trying to cover too much and losing impact as a result. One suggestion I would make then is to separate your commercial work from personal; if someone is looking for a wedding photographer for instance they want to know you have expertise in that field and not just as a sideline (even if it is!). The photo websites I am most impressed by have a consistent theme throughout, e.g all landscape, street or whatever, although like you I am more eclectic so struggle to achieve that. If you subscribe to Lightroom/Photoshop you have access to Portfolio which lets you build up to five free websites so maybe put all the Project Unknown shots on one, personal shots on another and so on, and keep the main site for commercial only. You can always include links to the other sites for people who are interested.

The analogy I think of is a shop window, do you put everything on show like a hardware store or focus on a well spaced and selective display like a posh ladies’ dress shop? Difficult I know and I should heed my own advice more but I hope you take this in the well-intended way it is meant.

Thanks all, it really is a place to refresh the soul with its fresh Atlantic air, wild flowers, insect and birds, and I walk there whenever I get the chance. Even the name of the National Trust farm where I park, Summerleaze, evokes the sense of the place.

I think I have come across a scam whilst selling a piece of Pentax kit on eBay; I received an offer for the asking price and then the buyer asked to contact me by email for “further information” to which I rather foolishly responded. He/she three times tried to persuade me to bypass the eBay payment system by paying me directly - if I give them details of my PayPal or bank. I refused and haven’t heard anything since. As eBay users here will know, such an arrangement would lead to closure of my eBay account but more importantly it looks like an attempt to elicit financial information for fraudulent purposes.

I don’t know if anyone else is familiar with this YouTube channel from the Isle of Skye but I have had a bit of a fall-out with them. They are running an occasional test to find the sharpest camera, starting with the Canon EOS 5 mark IV; the second body they compared was the Pentax K1 mark II using the same third party lens with different mounts and both on a tripod, manual focus. It is obvious from subsequent comparisons they don’t bother familiarising with the cameras until ready to shoot, so they tried it in pixel-shift. Unsurprisingly the shot of buildings across a harbour showed aberrations in the moving waves so the camera and PS were immediately trashed. When I said they should have tried a straightforward shot the response I got was that the result was so bad it wasn’t even worth showing. Can it be really so bad compared to the best from Canon and Nikon?

At the checkout in Sainsbury’s the guy on the next aisle filled the entire length of the conveyor belt with bottles of gin and other spirits - I want to know where his street party is! Our street party has been brought forward to this afternoon due to the poor forecast for Sunday, so I shall be busy making cucumber, egg and cress, and salmon sandwiches, added to which will be trifle and cakes all washed down with Buck’s Fizz and tea. On another note I just sold £650 worth of Lee Filters on eBay but they have taken £80 in commission & vat so I will need cheering up this afternoon!

Basically Kris the TS lens is doing the same as your bellows-type large format, moving and angling the lens relative to the sensor/film plane. I am always curious how the bellows type works as the image circle from a TS lens is larger than a conventional lens so that the sensor stays within the circle as it is moved around. If you splash out about forty grand on a Phase One for shift only you can move the sensor back instead!
