John - Yes, I have tried Eastnor, a fellow tog and I have had special access to the deer via some coded security gates for a few years now and the deer are extremely timid and ultra aware of humans, even thou we've covered up and worn camo, its extremely difficult to get within any decent shooting distance even with a 450mm lens on a crop body.

John - thanks for the comment, unfortunately the shrubbery in the foreground couldn't be avoided and as you can see, they are fully aware of my presence even thou I was 30m+ from them.

No one's gone for my fav, #1 I love the light and the dark BG !!
Inclined to agree with you, the light on his antlers works well. I have a deer park just a mile away with a public footpath running through so access any time (and no bossy wardens at dawn telling you to stay on the path!) Funnily enough when the deer are around the house where visitors congregate they are much more tolerant of humans than in the wilder part.

Sad to read of the pointless deaths of a couple taking selfies in Yosemite Park, and it reminded me of an incident last year which even now makes my hands go clammy. I was set up on a high spot taking shots as the sun went down and was so absorbed I completely forgot about a sheer drop a few feet behind me. Had I just stepped back a bit more I probably wouldn’t be here now, and now I make sure I am well away from any hazards when setting up, even if it means not quite getting that shot.

As LennyBloke said, lovely harmonious tones. So, a 100 mile trip to where exactly? Or is it a secret?

In the second and third shots I like how you have balanced the outside and inside exposures and retained the colour in the glass, always tricky to get right. Nice set.

I have a mint condition Vivitar 2x (this is not a sales plug) but have stopped using it because I have found without it and cropping to the equivalent area gets me better results. How does this Pentax one compare on a digital body?

A Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 DG macro, very cheap and not a proper 1:1 macro, but compact and relatively light as well as full frame. I bought it as a stopgap (possibly) until the Pentax 70-200 f4 is launched. It extends out a long way for 300mm and then some more for the ‘macro’ which is useful for close-up from a distance. Pretty sharp but colours are a bit flat although that can be helped in PP.

Impressive, especially the stacked shot. A question - do you process the photos before or after combining them?
