Be honest fokes....and I know I haven't had a chance to review one yet....if you had a chance to re-specify the current top of the range Pentax stills DSLR....the K20D.... would video be on top of your list?
No auto focus in video mode?....JEEEEZE!

It is certainly developing an interest, which of course is key in promoting a new product.
I guess its the pro stills shooter that doesn't want to pay more for something s/he does not really need, but does require the best in the range....ie stills fuctionality...who will influence the market and buy accordingly.
I wonder what the competition are doing in R&D and will do in the future...the lack of video on a top whack Nikon may put the K7 in an uncomfortable niche...on price ie K7 pushed into a top end Nikon price bracket????
The K7 will have to deliver on both fronts. The video will have to be 3 CCD HDV.
Yes, it may well make the K20D more attractive and therefore halt its falling price.
Just MHO.
Pentax has got guts.

And from a marketing perspective, it will be interesting to see what professional users make of the K7....ie use and abuse of products.

Adding video to the top of the market may be a mistake...the BEST Pentax stills camera. Maybe it will catch on...its up to the people with cash in their pocket who believe they will not be compromised in buying the best Pentax stills camera, because of the added and perhaps not wanted, video.
In addition, they may perceive they are being forced to pay for something they don't really want....or at least at the buying stage they believe they don't need it.
Furthermore, I think the buying decision will depend on the existence and quality of their current camcorder. Peoples' buying decisions may be different as a function of whether they already have a high quality camcorder or not, and whether indeed they are bothered about video capture...and then depending on the reviews of the K7 when it's in the hands of the experts and then the market. At the top end of the stills market, it will be compared to 3ccd and HD videos...that may be harsh I know.
It's a risky marketing decision...time will tell.
It's just the way I think, I can live with others thinking differently. Let's see the growth rate of the early adopters...but I wouldn't class myself as a laggard....in marketing terms.
The market will decide.

Yes, there isn't always an underhand or devious reason for everything that happens. I'm sure manufacturers want to produce the most attractive products that they can and any limitations will be a result of the limitations of current technology.
What I am worrying about is what compromises have been made to include video...at the cost of still photography quality and flexibility? EG any limit on lens capability, as a function of what system is using the lens at any one time? What about the extra (huge) call on file storage and power? Any limits/constraints on the sensor(s)? Does the processor have to be faster, more expensive? What will top end camcorders do that this K7 cannot?
No, not for me....its a bit like buying a car, with a free motor bike thrown in!

Same thing happens with riflescopes from the USA....delete dollars insert pounds....ripoff Britain...wonder how many cameras have gone thru on MPs expenses?...never mind...they will be reminded of their ways when Euro election results are out.

What I have found with those that use camcorders and still cameras is the response of the subject(s) being snapped....if it looks like a still camera they stop and pose, if it looks like a camcorder they stay in motion.
I personally wouldn't wish to shell my hard earned on an extra that maybe doesn't come up to the standard of a 3ccd camcorder, especially when mine is so small and light and self contained....unless you are doing a wedding, no need for extra batteries and drives.
That said, three years ago at my daughter's wedding when she banned videos in the Church, if not for my brother's compact that also did video, I would have no video to edit into the final cut. That said the clip format needed extra drivers in my editing s/w.
Interesting....court still out, especially if it's that which is loading up the cost of manufacture and therefore price.
