On announcement I was keen on the K7 but the pricing is a bit too steep for me, the K20D is becoming ever more appealing as prices head below £500

Whilst the K7 has some decent features many of them won't prove too useful for my main requirement, Landscape Photography..the extra MP of the K20D will be useful for print enlargements

Decisions, decisions !!

Have a look at this desk top review Simon of a pre production model....I've been chucking rocks at its video spec and pricing but I'm warming to it. link

What's on my mind at the moment, whilst getting over the alleged lack of auto focus for numpties like me (evidentally its inclusion would only be a function of a S/W upgrade) is the memory media...SD only. Video can't half eat that up!

Can't wait for a full review of the production model.

Stefan,

Basically, if the selling price isn't higher because of the added cost of the video then profits will be lower, assuming elastic demand and all other things being equal. Less profits lead to less money for R&D etc.

Rip off Britain and exposure to currency conversion works against us, as you say. It all depends what overall global demand will be; hence my comments on Pentax and guts.

They may have it right, if only the direction of their marketing strategy for the K7, they can always update S/W and reduce wholesale price.

Time will tell.

Seems to me that that the addition of video means all things to all men, especially where Pentax is perceived to be in the market place.

Some might think it to be a point and squirt addition, others thinking it should be somewhere near what a wannabe Spielberg might throw into his/her bag as a back-up whilst on holiday.

Isn't it nice that good old Pentax are giving Nikon and Canon something to worry about, in terms of competitive advantage?

Still wondering about price, given the incremental cost of adding video to a stills camera, when perhaps other areas should receive some further attention...I don't know....better lenses?

More stupid questions to follow I'm sure.

We must stop speculating and wait for a professional review.

But one things for sure...its my money and my buying decision.

It will be great for some and maybe not so for others. Horses for courses.

I'm afraid your lack of knowledge about video should shame you. There is not on professional video camera by any manufacturer that has auto focus, go work it out
Manners please!

Don't think I implied that. And always indicated that I am an amateur.

I only have a JVC 3ccd GZ MC 500EK....it has auto-focus and a manual ring.

In context, many state that Pentax is not in the top end professional stills DSLR category.

I would still like auto-focus...for so many of those occasions when you just want to slip into video to capture a special moment when your cam-corder is not with you and set up.

Sony HVR-V1U HDV a professional HDV camcorder with auto-focus link

I have also been wondering whether the apparent sophistication of the K7 and its ilk would be better controlled, in certain circumstances, by a laptop.....or am I really shaming myself now?
