Rees, if you want a 600mm f4 then you can order one! It may not be at a price that's even thinkable though....
Do you have a guide price John?
Think House !!
Your quite right Martin, I must get things into perspective - would be nice though.

Only from a vague memory. I'm not sure now if it was £4000 or £7000, but at that level it might be academic anyway?
I'll keep looking for an 'M' series John, but thanks anyway, one day, I dreamed a dream!

[quote:3496ace15f="ttk"][quote:3496ace15f="Unlocker"]Is it a Pentax Cashback promotion so that it can be used anywhere, or say a deal between PU mag & SRS?

Might be 59 dealers, but my dealer is not listed, does this mean I cannot participate with my dealer?????
I take it only with the dealers listed have you phoned your shop and asked, there might be a chance they have missed him.
Yes, and they were not aware of the promotion when I called and they are Pro Dealers, having said that I can see only one dealer listed for Wales, which is typical anyway.

My ideal exotic lens from Pentax would be a 600mm (in old money) f4 would do nicely and I would buy straight away. I missed an M series lens recently in an auction. Reading through this thread, there does seem to be a consensus for a longer focal length than what is currently made and after Scott's (scotthehat) problems with his Sigma 500, indicates such an opening for Pentax.

Can't work out the price of the K-7 though

I couldn't either without a wholesale price, so hardly a fair comment.
No dealer in their right mind would order cameras without knowing the price and discount structure plus as is often the case with a new launch extended credit to tempt them into taking more stock. Suppose you order X cameras and then find that if you'd ordered another one you would have got an extra 5% off all of them.

Mathers and other dealers have their prices sorted. Mathers price £1129 with Kit Lens and that's from a dealer who has remained loyal to Pentax since they (Pentax) first started selling cameras. Mathers have actually been selling cameras since 1900

shim[/quote]Excellent company, Mathers of Lancashire, spent thousands with them over the years, very friendly and good prices.

I can see no point at all in promoting just one mail order dealer. If Pentax are in any way connected with this they will have serious problems with their other dealers and even outlets refusing to stock their stuff. Pentax may as well sell direct and forget about selling through shops, but mail order is not the way to promote photographic gear.

What's needed is more Pro dealers no more than 25 miles from everyone in the country.

shim
I am with you on this one shim - point well made.

At your age, you want to stay away from mountains!!!!

And where would I find one worthy of the name within 10 miles? Nice if you live in a city not practical if you don't.

I think the Royal Mail is wonderful they serve me very well and I'm pretty rural.

I am very rural mikew, my nearest large town, so to speak of, is 32 miles away, so 64 mile round trip. Having said that, there is a Pentax Pro dealer there and they are superb, good service, knowledgeable, don't always stock everything, but will get it for you to look at within days and I would not shop anywhere else for Pentax products.
