I think the CRV3's last a little longer than the Lithium AAs, but certainly no where near the price difference!
I'm not sure what the deal is with the CRV3's, having opened up a dead one, it's just two AA's in a custom shell so that they fit the right way in camera...:

I haven't tried the later versions with my DL2, but Pentax deffinitly put more effort into limiting which cameras work with RA as time went on.

If you want to keep using RA, don't upgrade the firmware on your DL2, the firmware update which allows SDHC cards also disables RA compatibility.
That's that, then - I carried out the upgrade well over a year ago....

Thanks for all the replies, chaps.

Oops - clicked the wrong forum - deepest apologies

Yes, I can d/l the latest from the Pentax site, but I'm wondering if running it will have an adverse affect on my camera, computer or both....

Thanks Mannesty - I might yet give it a go...

I'm using v 1.0 with a DL2.

Does anyone know if later versions support my camera?

One way or another, you are paying too much for your batteries!

3 sets of Lithium AAs for less than you are currently paying for 1!!!

As for re-chargables, I've never got on with Eneloops, Hybrios and similar types. In my camera standard 7DayShop badged NiMH 2700s last longer than anything other than Lithium single use.
I last paid £5.39 per CRV3, so your link will come in very handy, thanks for that

If you are still buying alkaline batteries, you should think about investing in a set of Sanyo Eneloop (or similar) rechargeables. Cheap as chips nowadays and far superior power/life to alkalines. Once charged, they hold 80% of their charge for a year.

Check here. But if you are thinking of upgrading to a K10/20D or K-7 any time soon, don't waste your money on these. All those cameras have a proprietary battery.
Standard AA's don't last in this camera! I've been using Lithium CRV3's for as long as I can remember and always carry a spare full set in the bag. The major advantage with a camera that "will" take AA's is of course that should you get caught out, they can be obtained anywhere. I generally have to replace batteries twice a year.

I did try a set of rechargeable batteries but they only lasted marginally longer than a standard AA. I would have tried lithium rechargeable sets, but according to the manual, that is a no-no.

Batteries are the one thing that has stopped me "upgrading".

1x SanDisk UltraII 2GB 1x Panasonic Class 6 4GB, 1x Kingston SD4 8GB. When not in the camera or the PC, they are in a case. Never had a problem with any of them (although the Kingston is quite new ~3 months old.

As an aside, how do people get the images from the Camera to the PC?

I stopped using the cable some time ago because of the power-drain - at around £12 to replace the batteries in my DLII it was getting to be an expensive method. I purchased a mult-card reader and installed it in the PC and now use that.

Also, take a look at www.aria.co.uk - they often have some really good offers.

FWIW I work like this;

Before anything else, make a copy of the SD card.

i. Use FastStone to preview images on the card. Make a note of which shots I want to work on
ii. Use Elements7 to make any adjustments to the RAW files then finish of and convert to JPG (still in elements)
iii. Occasionally, the JPG will visit GIMP, as there are some things you can do there that Elements does not do.

How does this look for workflow, Comments welcomed?
