I have the Sigma EX 70-200 F2.8 DG bought from Mifsuds late last year, wanted a fast, good quality telephoto lens....

Emphasis was on fast. But the lens gives me very good photos and is a dream to use. I also have the 70-300 APO Macro lens (f4-5.6) and quite frustrated at the 5.6 to such a degree I might buy the 100-300 f4 EX.

As soon as the dust from the K10D launch settles and the lenses appear on the shelves I have already decided I will get the 16-50 and the 60-250 JUST to use with the K10D. The DL I have has the lens I bought with it permanently attached and it's only the D that I swap and change lenses....

I had heard that the SMC-FA 2.8 zooms were not THAT good........

Best Pentax lens I have, by a substantial margin is the 24-90..it was meant to be used on the MZ-S but on the *ist D it feels so well balanced.

I have a couple of EX lenses (15-30, 24-70, 20, 70-200) and I am quite happy with them - the 24-70 and 70-200 are 2.8's and I am very satistfied with both.

However, I am happier with the SMC-FA 24-90 f3.5-4.5 lens, which is expensive and like rocking horse poo...

I also have the DFA 100 mm Macro I bought recently, well worth the expense....

SMC FA 17-28 Semi-fisheye?

If you want the width for both film and digital then Sigma do the EX 15-30 mm lens, I have one and it's very good. But as it's so wide and big it doesn't come out very often....

I think the manual is useful only to work out the custom functions

otherwise like a typical Pentax they are so intuitive to use....

Sure you mean the software....

I'd go for the full Adobe photoshop programme, forget elements......

There is such a poor p/ex value for cameras I'd keep the DL and D. Perhaps you could use them in high risk situations, like bad weather, caving, whatever else puts a camera at risk?
Just leaving the camera bag open and then taking it out of the car presents a high risk situation - this is why I have the DL, to cover me while the D was being repaired .....

I'm pondering p/x'ing the DL, as I am reluctant to let go of the D....

Part of the problem is that despite how much you paid for the D in the first place, whether 600 or 1200 pounds the camera has the same secondhand value, and there is no point p/xíng something if you are lucky to get 150 pounds as trade in for something that is a pretty good piece of kit...

I know I won't take such a great hit if I traded-in the DL.... but I will wait until after the PMA in Los Angeles to see if Pentax do reveal more about the 'K1D'.

That all depends on what you call expensive?

I have 2 X *istD bodies and I've used the *istDS. The D, when fitted with a battery grip, is a fabulous camera to use and much simpler than a DS. As George says, many functions are accessible through buttons or dials rather than having to go into the menu system.

Like many others here, I can't wait to get my hands on a K10D, but I'll not part with my D's just yet. I sold the DS I had and kept the D's. They are far more versatile than the later models.
Oddly enough, even though my D has been dropped and the DL has not disappointed whatsoever, I have thought about selling the DL to make way for the K10D, will see how the D survives the next few months...

I do agree with the points about the functionality of the D, the hyper modes and the fact you can add a grip. The disadvantage of the DL is that it's so light I have to check it's still there from time to time

If it's a 'new' ist D body (I trust you mean the 2003 original) then about 500-600 pounds is what you would expect to pay for one....

It's a much more substantial body than the DL and DS.

However new in 2003 it was 1200-1400 pounds. I guess that when the K10D arrives it might get cheaper than 500 pounds just to clear the stuff off the shelves....

I don't think the 18-55 is such a BAD lens, the DL was bought as cover for when the D was in for repair... and it was a while before I found the ideal lens for that camera - the 24-90..

I've noted what Kevin's said about the Sigma 100-300, my 70-200 works well but some of the others don't quite cut the mustard. If I didn't have the 200-300 pounds for the 16-45 I wouldn't jump onto the Sigma boat straight away as their non-EX lenses aren't special...
