Here's another forest window (a bit like Windows 1.0 )
Forest window 1.0 [Sigma 105/2.8 EX DG Macro]

I did like that band of light coming from the left, but the reflection is too busy and it's harder to make sense of it.

And to show to Spider that I did a more industrial shot in monochrome:

Thanks all for looking and for your kind words!

Spider:
On 'climate control' I do see where you are coming from. I tried doing a B&W of it but in the end I liked the touch of blue in the sky as it is. Of course we don't see the pollution from the coal power plant but only the steam in the picture.
And we (especially in Europe (which includes Britain, by the way)) should be aware that global warming could well mean that our climate gets cooler. All that contributes to me not being quite happy with that image.

Forest Window did work out nicely. I had a try on a different puddle earlier and that looked too confusing (although it did have a nicer lighting). I'll dig that out tonight...

Thanks again,
Prieni

As I have done my share of pixel peeping for this week I thought I might show some of the results of last weekends stroll in the forest and to the shore:
Autumn walk [Pentax DA* 16-50]

Now I can go back to sifting through the archives for "transport" shots...

he, he, Not the first time I've heard that.
While in software quality assurance I was not on the 'favorite' list of many of the people I worked with. I often went around and broke fingers - metaphorically speaking, of course.
If I look at some pieces of software I wonder if breaking some necks would be more appropriate
As a friend of mine used to say:
Most problems in an organisation of any kind could be solved by five bullets. (I think he wasn't meaning that metaphorical at all...)

Not bad, but a smaller aperture would have ensured the left hand side was in focus too, and I find the small white highlights on the right side a little distracting. Contrast looks a bit flat too, perhaps you need to play with the curves.

Dan
Yeah, well, it wasn't taken with a Pentax
Contrast is ok, I think, and after all it's the story that is told by the shot that counts.

I can see why you are happy with them. I sure would be as well.
Guess they should look pretty good in colour as well, though I like them in B&W.

Great series!

OK prove it, show us some macro shots of Atoms
I'm not a nuclear physicist but an applied one, so I don't do atoms.
This is probably the biggest magnification I have used:

But I'm doing surprisingly well in the entomology field as it seems; maybe time for a career change

Now back to the blackboard and change the writing (thanks Spider :evil.

Wow, just tried Matt's recommendation using 'geometric NR' in SilkyPix. Works like magic!
So should that feature show itself again when I take my once-in-a-lifetime shot I'm now prepared.
Thanks Matt!

Stefan, you can download a trial version of SilkyPix. It really is worth it (though I haven't used Adobe Camera Raw since I have Silky and the last version I used was CS (without any numbers)).

Ah well, you have a great shot and a couple of days later the winner entry comes along.

Dave's got himself a terrific shot, though. Can't argue with that...

(I will try to remember that law of photography, though: You can have too many dragonfly shots but you cannot have too many damselfly shots.)

I'll go now and write that on the blackboard a hundred times.
