Nice series of shots.
#1 I think I like least, though I cannot really put my finger on what I don't like. I would try to darken the upper (distant) parts a bit.

#2 is a good shot. Especially like the light coming from the front and showing the drops on the blades. It also gives the spikes an 'aura'. I think I would like it more a touch warmer, more like #3.

#3 lovely shot, excellent. The only thing I would change is clone out the white area upper left.

#4 I'm quite tired of dragonfly shots generally (mostly down to PPG, I guess), but I do like your shot here even though the background could be a little less busy.

Well I dont

I think the first is a bit......ordinary, the sky is urghhh and needs cropping out and its crying out for a focal point in that field, but dont worry I have hundreds like that I think a lower viewpoint looking up the irrigation ditch would have made a better image, totally cropping out the sky in the process.

The second is OK but its nowhere near as good as the third shot and to be honest putting the two together just totally puts this one on the discard pile.

The third is very nice (I wish I'd taken it), the background is nicely out of focus while the subject is nice an sharp, I do agree that the white blob has to go

The fourth is good too, ignore Prieni, you can never have too many DAMSELFLY shots (Dragonflys fold their wings at rest :wink the background is a trifle distracting but I reckon if your of a mind to do a bit of cloning or darkening down then this shot is the best of the bunch

I'm not used to that much agreement normally.
Sigh... There's always one kid spoiling the party...

(I will try to remember that law of photography, though: You can have too many dragonfly shots but you cannot have too many damselfly shots.)

Er, don't ignore Prieni, he was perfectly correct with his identification, and Spider's got them round the wrong way. This is a dragonfly (a Yellow Winged Darter, unless I'm mistaken ).

I'm not a nuclear physicist but an applied one, so I don't do atoms.

Not bad, but a smaller aperture would have ensured the left hand side was in focus too, and I find the small white highlights on the right side a little distracting. Contrast looks a bit flat too, perhaps you need to play with the curves.

Contrast is ok, I think, and after all it's the story that is told by the shot that counts.

Yes it is! But I'm not sure what type, it will be the female of one of the 'blue' species, but I'm not sure what one.

Damselflies are smaller, and aren't as powerful in flight. Dragonflies are much more impressive!
