I notice that in the discussion people have mentioned 100% and 200% crops; what is meant by this please?

Now there is something special I want to convey (e.g. some minor faults with the picture that are only seen when enlarged). So I set the zoom in my photo processing software to 100% (that means that one pixel of the photo is shown on one pixel of the monitor). Then I cut out a portion of the original photo and post it. This means that one pixel of the photo will be shown on one pixel of your monitor.
Like so (the lower left corner of the photo from above):

This is the 100% crop.
We do that in order not to post the whole photo in it's original resolution (which would be an alternative) but to show the "fine structure" of the photo without using too much memory (and therefore bandwidth).
Hope that made it a bit clearer,

I was tempted to cut this round early as it is difficult for me to judge so many entries (I do have a day job, you know). But in a heroic effort to support this fine forum I will meet this challenge.
I did also put up a prize for early bird entries (a K20D) during the first 48 hours but as no one submitted I have to keep it. (Sorry for not posting this incentive earlier.)
That's all I have time for, have to write the critiques for the entries that are already in. I should have known that the number of entries would go off scale for this one...

Tried Firefox, thought it was rubbish!
The Firefox one works very well despite not having "Firefox" in the dictionary!

I know that it is easier with the hood off. However, even with the hood off my cap doesn't hold on the lens well. (I cannot fit the lens with hood on in my bag.) And the design of the "pinchers" also could be improved by providing some dent where the fingernails (or fingertips) would get some grip. Considering the prize of that lens I think they could have spend a few cents extra on the cap.

And yes, Steve, I only noticed when adjusting the CA in SilkyPix and therefore looking at 400% size. It's easily corrected in SilkyPix but it shouldn't be there to start with...
And no, I wouldn't swap my K20D either. (I would, though, swap the fiddly lens cap of the DA* 16-50 for one that is easily removable even with sweaty fingers and that wouldn't fall off 9 out of 10 times when I get my camera out of the bag...)

Tut! Tut! Is it me or have you not corrected the lens distortion on the horizon
Just kidding Prieni its a very nice shot and the distortion hardly shows, the colours are really nice.
This was the first quick try with overlaying two 9-exposure shots. I wasn't quite sure how they line up and thought I could do the distortion correction in PS.
However, when it came to that point I was too lazy to get into PTLens again and decided I would correct the two shots in SilkyPix and do it again later.
So I did notice the distortion in SilkyPix already, which is not surprising with something like a horizon in the pic it is easily noticeable...
Thanks for your comments.
I don't know if there is a limit between exposures. I would have thought that switching the camera off would reset the feature but I haven't tried so far.

K20D, smc DA* 16-50 mm / 2,8 ED AL [IF] SDM, (1/8 s), A22, ISO 100.
There's also some post processing gone into the final image, of course.

But on my *istD it took me from December 2003 to October 2006 to get to that count...
And I feel like loosing the battle of post processing against the flood of new pics. The recent Gran Canaria trip is burning under the nails but I have to finish off the Hawaii trip from September first... Life can be tough

I recently blew up a picture from the *istD (6MP) to 2 m high. So far I only have the print from the institute's poster printer (don't tell them :blush and that looks great already! When my friend, who wants to have this pic that big, gives her o.k. I will order from a poster printer. And I'm sure it will be well good enough quality.
I was a bit hesitant going from my *istD to the K20D as I think it already has too much resolution. It is quite nice on occasion to be able to freely crop into a picture but on most shots 6MP would have been enough.

I have to say, though, that it is a bit unusual to have no entry at all after a week. I will start worrying around Tuesday.
But I don't have another worry I usually have: What to submit for the fortnightly competition
Rob, you're right about the comments. It's as if the other children don't want to play with me
Hyram: Sorry, it's too late now
Good light, everyone,
Prieni
All I need is one entry and I guarantee you that I'll pick a winner
