I'm still busy working up September's Kaua'i shots. Here are some from a fantastic helicopter trip:

Just in case you want to see more from Kaua'i, here's a Picasa WEB album with these and other shots.

I just hope the R800 you are going to get is not like mine was, a nightmare, bad is not the word for it, I "binned" it in the end.
Uh oh, I think your hope is nothing compared to mine
I did look at the R1900 it just seems too big for me...
I'll let you know when I have it.

P.S.: When looking at the running cost, don't make the mistake to calculate how much a liter of ink costs. That is really off-putting

My old Epson Stylus Photo 870 has developed an incurable smear syndrome, so I have an Epson Stylus Photo R800 on order. Maybe next weekend I am able to report back on it's qualities.

Duncan,

good to hear that they were able to retrieve everything. That's a load of your shoulders, right?

Belts AND braces doesn't sound that silly anymore, does it?

Well, it's easy enough to get a shot of a door. It's a different matter if you try to create a compelling photograph. And there's more than a week to go.

Yeah, I also had one from the market only.

Your's is not from the markets, though...

Dr. Mhuni,

you're right, I don't like it more than the entry but I like it. Perhaps the detail on the strawberry is too fine to be adequately rendered at 800 pixels.
Also the frost does cover one of the best features of a strawberry for me, which is the reflecting bits just under the skin that you can just make out on this shot:

On your shot I would crop out the upper third (or a bit less, just above one of the seeds).

Bravo! Seems I missed yesterdays series, have to go and have a look. I did try to get some useful shots, it isn't easy. I have seen a disused fishtank in the institute warehouse, I think I have to go and get that. That should be ideal for some splashing experiments...

Well, 55 minutes is not too bad, I think
Swift and competent judging (though I don't agree with everything, as usual).
A very good standard of submissions, not an easy one to judge for sure.

As to the critique on my entry:
Quote:
Levels in PS show some room for brightening up the picture, and giving it a bit more crystal clear sparkle. The highlight slider can be brought back to 240, without clipping. Try it out, and you see what i mean. Otherwise....well done.
My PS says that there are 113 pixels in the range from 240 to 255, 7 of those at 255. So following your suggestion some clipping would occur. I think it would loose some of the difficile structure when brightened up (but that could well be a problem of my ageing monitor...). Too high a price to pay for that extra sparkle.

Congratulations Peter, this is a superb entry and a deserving winner.

Dr. Mhuni, I do like your entry very much.
