I bet your feeling like a teenager without a mobile phone I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms after more than two weeks without a working camera...
It's a bit like gaining understanding after recovering from a short term memory loss I suffered after an accident a while back.
Galoot: I know how it is meant. But don't blame me, blame the judges. It's far too much fun to not take part in the competitions and I haven't won that often...

I voted for #6, but I also like #8 (when you clone out the bag in the background and lighten up the eyes (quite like them in the original shot)).
BTW: Have you been around when the age poll was active? We could see things quite different from the "young generation"...

Martin,
sorry to hear of your suffering. I think I can speak for all of us in saying that we will miss your contributions but we do understand that you have more important things to concentrate on.
We will welcome you back with open arms whenever you think you're ready. I hope that your camera will allow you to push aside the tragedy for short spells now and then and that these spells will grow with time.

As I'm still waiting for the return of my K20 (I was told that the parts had arrived and it should be on it's way in due course; that was on Tuesday) I thought I should give the firmware update a try.
After I inserted the CF card with the new firmware on it I powered the *istD up while holding the menu button. A "loading" appeared on the screen. This looked very promising as I couldn't convince the camera to show anything on the screen unless I remove the backup battery and put it in again, after which it would prompt me for date/time info that I cannot enter as it doesn't react to any key presses.
A moment later my hopes faded as the additional information "error" appeared on the screen.
Well, it was worth a try and at least it hasn't done additional damage to the camera.

As promised, here is a 100 percent crop of the lower right corner of a shot with the 16-50 at 16 mm, F11:

It was the first 16 mm one I could find. There certainly is some CA but not a lot (5 and 6 in SilkyPix with the K20D, if you use that combination).
For reference, here is the full pic:

Perhaps not my best shot ever, but it does show the CA...

Thanks Gwyn, all I need now is my camera back.
I called Pentax in Hamburg yesterday and they told me that they had to wait for parts that had meanwhile arrived. So it could be that it is on it's way to me. Or to my works address. During the Easter Holidays.
I won't hold my breath, let's see next week.

Well done Yves,
you did your bit to end the global financial crisis in the photographic equipment section
Will they be hidden for Easter instead of eggs?
Peter,
the 16-50 does show CA. If I remember to do so I will convert one for you without CA correction and post a 100% (or bigger) crop.
I could imagine that it is a bit worse than the kit lens as it is 2 mm wider, which can make a difference. But I don't have a 18-55 to compare...

this is a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer combination. I don't work with this but in our department (Marine Chemistry) it is used to measure pollutants in sediment and water samples.
