They're all very striking.

What's happening with the water level in the second one? It's cutting the lights, so it looks like it's flooding, although I'm sure it isn't.
Thanks Chris!
Close to the buildings there is the "old stream" (Alter Strom) which is a bit quieter water. The major part of the water is the main shipping channel, the mouth of the Warnow river ("Mündung" in German means mouth; Warnemünde means Warn(ow)mouth). In that part there was a bit more wave action and therefore it looks different. I think thatäs what you are seeing.

Cheers,
Prieni

Very nice, I love the first one and Dead Mans Beach best, I am getting very tempted with the 10-17mm.
Prieni, did you have to correct the horizon from barrel distortion or is that how it came out because the horizon is near centre?
Lilly, if I remember correctly I only needed a very slight correction for this one. As you mentioned, the horizon was going pretty much through the centre. The cliff does look reasonable even with the distortion (of course that wouldn't work on a building or similar).
Galoot does have a few landscape shots with the 10-17 as well and these are stunning. In this thread he gave a link to his WEB gallery:

Well worth looking!

Brilliant shot, John!

And one of my favourite subjects, the beach. Very nice colours, the blues in the shells and the greens on the sand, great! I also like the format of this shot. Well done.

Don't you have to love this Sigma 105?

And your shots with the 10-17 are also marvellous. On some of the reflections it would have been nice to have a grad filter, but with the 10-17 it's not possible
What I try is to expose for the sky, lighten up the pic in post processing and apply a gradient layer using soft light mode. This does increase noise a little but apart from that it's like having a grad filter on the lens.

Great bounty!

I guess it will take at least a few weeks. I can give you a ring when I retired with my millions on a Caribbean island, which is exactly the time when you should feel your sensor growing...

Thought of that when looking for something to try out the new AF-540FGZ in wireless together with the AF-360FGZ. I noticed the FF on a recent batch of Fishermen's Friends:

Ashamed of your high crop factor? Other photographers laughing about you?

Not any longer! Take our superior product, FullFrame(tm) pills and you will have the last laugh.

FullFrame will bring your crop factor down faster than you buy new lenses. All ingredients are organically grown, high quality silicon and metal oxides are farmed and harvested under total control of ff-ripoff Inc.

But you don't have to take our word for it, here's what satisfied customers have to say:

"FullFrame pills are fantastic! I brought my crop factor down from 1.5 to 1.3 in only one week. And not only that, my composition has improved as well!"
S. Impleton, NH

"I was ashamed to get my camera out of the bag because of the small sensor. Now that I started taking FullFrame my confidence has grown. Only yesterday I stood next to the professionals when our local supermarket reopened!"
F.A. Tuos, TX

"Not only my crop factor has come down but I also got more MPixels out of this product! At this rate in another 6 months all my tele lenses will be wide angles! Fantastic product!"
A. Sinine, CA

Our product is available in two flavours, FullFrame CCD and FullFrame CMOS. Make sure you order the right one for your camera.
From P&S to full frame camera in only 6 months.

I do enjoy shooting for the competition more, usually. However, as was said, in this case it's not quite possible to jet off to your favourite place if it happens to be far away. At other times we might be too busy to get the right shot in (sometimes we try in vain; good job we're not professionals as then we would have blown it).

So maybe we need a sponsor for a sizeable prize money? But then there would be even more entries, this competition attracts quite a lot of entrants as it is (and Lilly had her work cut out nicely last week).

I like the competition rule-light as it is.

Thanks niblue for your swift judgement and thanks also for the commendation. karma mechanic congratulations for a well deserved win. I think using IR really made this shot special and transports the mood of this place (I used to live in Southampton). Well done!

Congratulations also to all other entrants making it a good competition (again)!

Looking forward to this weeks topic,
Prieni

This is a tough one as there are quite a few places that come to mind. For the competition I chose this one from Venice:

Some of us are still searching for a reason why Clarkson exists. Like Delia Smith and Madonna, his career seems to be a trumph of marketing over talent.

IMHO, naturally.

G
George, while I concur with that for Madonna (great PR person, though) and Delia Smith (never really was interested in her, though you can't really avoid her in the UK) I think Jeremy Clarkson is brilliant. I really like his style of humour, though I can see why some people don't like him. What does it for me is that from time to time he can make fun of himself. Knowing that I'm much more tolerant when he makes fun of other people or groups or shows off his ego which is the size of a planet.

I would love to see a motoring magazine like Top Gear on German TV and I am surprised that no one has taken that on given that globalisation of nonsensical TV series seems to be the way to go. Maybe Top Gear makes too much sense :
