You are getting some great shots with that 10-17 fisheye. I was planning on getting the sigma 10-20 which i recall you also have : Which do you prefer : I ask because i didn't think i would get that much use out of the 10-17 but seeing some of the shots you have been getting i am starting to believe it has a broader use than first thought and i am starting to swing towards it. Your thoughts :

Hi Clarky, no I don't have the Sigma.

I have the Pentax 17-28mm zoom, which I used a lot with my Z1 film camera, this gives the fish-eye effect on 35mm, but not on digital. I found I was really missing the extra wide angle, so went for the Pentax 10-17mm.

I was tempted by the Sigma, as I have the 105 macro, and it is superb !!!

There was a link somewhere on the forums to a comparison between the Pentax and the Sigma super-wides, can't find it at the moment, but I thought the Pentax gave the extra 'punch' I was looking for.

The somebody else is possibly me. I have both the Sigma 10-20 and Pentax 10-17 and they're both great lenses that I use frequently. While the 10-17 is useful in more situations than you'd think I'd still have no hesitation in recommending the "normal" super-wide first though, as I still find I use the Sigma much more than the fisheye.

Since I'm new around here, could someone explain the rules ?

In particular, normally I would expect that pictures submitted are taken for the competition, but obviously in this case I can't head off to Italy (I wish..) to take one of my favourite places. So is any picture from the past ok, and does it matter what it was taken on ?

There are virtually no rules, except that you must submit by midnight on Sunday night.

Pentax cameras are preferred.

It's as rule-light as possible.

Images should be no more than 1000 pixels to avoid scrolling as much as possible.

Deadline Midnight Sunday as george mentioned.

No posts apart from images in the actual competition thread - any comments put in will be deleted, so as to keep the thread clear for the judge.

The week's winner sets the next competition and judges the result.

I have once done a shoot just to get a picture for one of the competitions but usually, and I'm certainly not alone, I pick something from my existing shots to fit the theme - in fact looking back through my pics and thinking about the theme is half of the fun of the competition for me.

I on the other hand try to shoot something new for each competition. I find the time line and the varying subjects really forces me to try new things and gives me a chance to be more creative than I normally am... while sitting in my cubicle all day.

Either way... whatever it takes to keep things interesting and fun.

I'm with you, amoringello, I do try shoot for the competition, it does stimulate creativity, but, as I work away from home a lot, it's not always possible.
