Who's going to "represent" Pentax at Biggin Hill next weekend? .
I'm planning to be there, not sure of the day yet.

Mike (no offence), quality is not the best, not sharp and/or blurry (not speaking about the first one ). I have said that as I know you can take much better pics (just by seeing your photos in the gallery).

It was turning into an argument between individuals, so I stopped it to allow the feelings to calm down.
If there's anything anyone wants to add, just start a new thread and let's keep it all on a less tense level.
John, don't take it as offence, but:
- I didn't see any "argument between individuals" in that subject, but even if it would happen and people wouldn't be able to stop it personally then the particular posts should have been moderated (if it is not a massive "fight" including a number of people). Especially that saying "subject fully explored" has not much to do with mentioned "arguments..." reason.
- I don't think anybody could know at that stage that subject has been explored, you could expect anyone who has some experience in the subject recently to find this subject at any day and add something. If "fully explored" reason would be valid, then you could close a lot of topics here on this forum (pointless of course).
- I completely disagree with approach as you wrote "start a new thread If there's anything anyone wants to add", this way just causes mess, makes searching/finding information much harder, creates a number of duplicated threads, doesn't scale; they way is to keep comments related to the subject in the subject.

I may have a few words to add under this subject in near future, but so far still waiting for any answer from a Pentax representative I've spoken to and exchanged few emails with, I'm waiting to get any answer, even if that is going to be ("no chance"), still better than completely nothing back (and if so, I will have to pester Chris@SRS again, this time to sort the problem out in a "typical" way ).

First one not interesting (did you PP it, it looks a bit oversharpened (and blurry) to me, but it may be just a wrong impression), second one not bad, nice pose, nice background/DOF behind the little beast (IMHO) .

Am completely open for suggestions regarding sizes/resolutions etc
One important note, working with LCd use theire native resolution always, often you may use other resolutions, but this is thanks to different approximation, streching, cuting techniques - means big lose in quality, always use native, and hence the question, if LCD size dictates what resolution you will use, you have to know what resolution you want to worki with and if your PC/graphics card supports that.

Gosh, I just noticed now that when I open the images on the second monitor I have where I keep the browsers open the images look quite flat without any warm colours.
Amin, I don't know what browser you are using but maybe it is the case of colour management (lack of it) in the browser.

Regarding the monitor, we could try to advice something, sure for colour work 100% advice is don't buy any LCD based on a TN pannel , say what size/resolution you need and what are the funds... (perfectly honest, LCD for colour work if you have larger budget - Eizo and NEC are the best, then, after some gap you have the rest ).
If you have a bit bigger budged I could point you to some Eizo/NECs and I'm quite sure that when compared to the "typical" home LCD you would really appreciate the difference.
And lastly, pics looks ok to me, very warm.

So which is the final recommendation?

calibrate or not?

I have got a laptop, is worth spending money on a Spyder or Huey software or better to try different labs until find the one that suits our colour?
Of course calibrate, but also be aware that if the screen is not good for work with colour it may not make any significant improvements (honestly it may not be possible to calibrate a poor monitor/panel).
Worth to consider if it is not a good time to buy a good monitor for photos.

Calibrating LCDs is a bit other that CRTs, here is a tool a like (of course it is still just calibrating "on eye").

Do you know if the kit lens is the WR model or are we going to be paying extra for that?
Not 100% sure to be honest, I was about to ask this question, but somehow I didn't ask at the right time and forgot about it later , but personally I would be suprised it it wouldn't be the WR one.
