It is available on some cameras via certain button presses, as already mentioned. I've never seen it mentioned anywhere that Pentax has a similar hidden function.
Having recently tried it with both systems I'm confident having it in EXIF is much more useful. It's possible to look at what the value was at times in the past, & it's generally easier to access...

Thanks for that Steve
Not an easy sequence on the G5 took 3 goes - but I've managed on the two cameras I use regularly. I'm relieved to see they're considerably lower than the K7, but that does tend to come out for times I'm expect heavy shooting rather than just making sure I have a camera with me.

Thanks Steve.
I think I'd downloaded PIE in the past but getting a reminder was useful. The full EXIF it displays is very comprehensive!
Checking through my recent images it seems most of my cameras do not have a shutter activations field in the EXIF. I found it for my K7, but not the K100d, any of my micro four thirds bodies or any of the compacts! (The Pentax forums on-line option linked can't find it for these either.)
Activations on the K7 was somewhat surprising - nearing 50k even though I've only used it for half a dozen events in the last two years.

I used to use rechargeables in mine till they suddenly started running down. If I fit Lithium AAs in it they still last ages. I think it's something to do with the circuitry that tells when I batteries flat rather than using more juice. Mines not happy with NIMH any more it's one of the excuses I used to justify upgrading to the K7. If I could have held out another 6 months the upgrade could have been a K5 for the same price.

The price has been steadily falling since I got mine, but I think that's still a good price, last one I noticed was £250. It's a really great lens if you like ultra wide shots BTW.

I never had any complaints with mine, but once I got the 55-300 I've never felt the need of it again.
My 55-300 is at least as sharp as my 50-200, and I find the extra reach very useful. Both DA50-200 & F100-300 came out of my bag and were replaced by the 55-300 (MUCH lighter). I think the old lenses have only been used once since when my kids borrowed them with my old K100d.

Impressive results but I think I'd rather avoid such an opportunity!
Like Phillip & Bill I find #5 particularly awesome.

I hope the area recovers swiftly!

Wow, just round the corner from me - I'm in Weeley. Who says Pentax are thin on the ground, you make at least the 5th Pentax user in the area!
I started with film, then the K100d & now K7, The North Essex photographic workshop (I'm Treasurer so very much a regular) has 3 other Pentax users among the more occasional members. Meeting Monday nights in Holland on sea Public Hall.
Look forward to seeing some of your pictures, uploading is fairly easy as long as the photos are reduced in size suitably first.

The UV response might be a little restrictive, but to get better would need very specialized lenses.
Other than that it looks ideal, shame it's going to be well outside my price range!

Just for the record, Barrie's images were APSC (from a K-01) ; mine was on 'full frame' (36x24) 35mm transparency film. The definition on both seems to be much the same.
There's not much difference in size between the two, despite all the fuss made about full frame. The apparent definition does improve as you go to 5x4, 10x8 etc. Pinhole film cameras with the long exposure times are ideal DIY projects where a true large format camera can be put together for next to nothing.
