You can also download a FREE version of FastStone Capture.
It is an old version but works perfectly !
link

At least you could get it in the past but it may have been removed ?

I think they will call it the K9 so they can 'unleash' it on April 1 next year !

Welcome aboard !

I hope you get as much fun from your K50 as I do from mine.

Don't worry about complexities just have a play experimenting with different settings - that's the joy of digital, you are not wasting film, just delete anything you don't like (but don't forget to make a note of what settings gave you what you don't like so you don't do it again !!!)

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions - I've learnt a lot from this Forum, although there's still so much more !
The important thing is 'just enjoy' !

Best regards
Peter

I started with a Kodak Brownie 127 in my teens and got my first 35mm camera, a Kodak Retinette IIb when I went to university. That was the camera that I developed (sorry) my photographic enthusiasm with, doing my own B&W D&P in the university darkroom where I also reloaded my cassettes with cheap govt surplus FP3 cut from long reels.
I was given a s/h Zenit complete with the Helios 58mm f/2 (which I still use on my Pentax DSLR's) but for lightness and ease of use I bought an Olympus Trip for everyday use.
I went through a number of different 35mm 'point & shoot cameras whilst the family were growing up and eventually went digital with a Canon A40 - only 2MP but still capable of decent A4 prints !
After moving up to a Canon A580 and then an S90 (which I still use as my 'pocket camera') I felt the need for the greater flexibility of a DSLR and after lots of research it was the Pentax K-r that 'stood out a mile' on my checklist.
I have been very pleased with the K-r (which caused me a mild LBA) and through this Forum I've learned a lot of useful tips and also the limitations of the K-r.
Hence last year I bought the K50 + DA18-135 kit for the WR, the better sensor and added facilities offered by the K50. This kit suits me very well and I don't see any need to upgrade..........(as yet, of course !)

You can buy an external power supply that fits in place of the K-r/K30/K50 battery.
They are available from USA via ebay :-

I've not used one - just found it by a google search.

Good luck

I've got a tripod somewhere. I think.
And a cable release.

A lovely set, David. Full of colour and gritty detail.
I have several tripods and it has been known for one to go for a ride in the car - but it always stays there while I go walkabout !

But seriously - these are great shots, David

That's a great set of images and I wouldn't think much improvement would be possible. I'd be very pleased with all of these.
I'll second that - they're a set to be proud of.
I couldn't believe the clarity you've achieved from that Tammy lens ?
Perhaps I don't need that Pentax 150-450 after all ???

Hello and welcome - the fun starts here !

If you want to save your money for good glass (very sensible) and want battery security take a look slightly down from the K5II or K3.

Have a look at the K50.

It is still a good camera, fully WR etc, but has a great advantage in that it will take a cheap AA battery holder.

I use mine with Eneloop or similar hybrid rechargeables which have extremely long life before losing charge so you can take several sets with you for less than spare LiIon batteries. What is more you can get normal AA batteries anywhere or simply take a few dozen with you ?

As I said, 'the fun starts here' !

Good hunting
Best regards
Peter
