Here's a 'Group Shot' of Pentaxers 'looking furtive' taken by 7 year old Hughie Elgar on outdated Boots film (Fuji 400). I developed his film but have not got all MY results; the 120 Velvia will be sent off Monday. Here are a couple on 1995 vintage Pan F ......

Continuing the 'Saga': went to Jessops Chelmsford today; had written out all the faults found; the girl there seemed to struggle a bit to get the camera switched on; yes, the LCD was empty of data, so she put in a battery from the showcase K10D and it came up,then put back MY battery and it worked, then saw all the weird purple images Daniel had got, so took it into the 'Assistant Manager' in his inner sanctum and said they would order a new one ! I had to keep all the gear including the French software book until I get the 'summons' from Jessops to collect replacement. Will keep you all informed, in the meantime, THANKS to Daniel the Pentax Digital Wiz-Kid who does take a good, clear snap occasionally.

Re trouble with K10D: (a) I do have an English camera book: it's the one about the SOFTWARE that's all in French. (b) I DID read about 'formatting' so I followed the instructions and it didn't seem to need it. (c) I did not nudge the Delete button. The Menu comes up OK but when I took a shot no image appeared, only a black screen with the 'delete' logo. The today I tried again: put it on manual as I did last week: no manual settings came up: put it on 'P' ,used daylight by the window and a pic appeared together with the 'delete' logo again. Then the next time I tried- NO PIC ! I will take it back to Chelmsford when they open on Monday.

John: I just reloaded the newly charged battery into camera, switched on and LCD came up OK then when I tried to take a test shot it would not take anything; I got a black screen with the 'delete' dustbin logo at the bottom; kept trying, no luck, I could not get an image to come up on the screen; I checked in camera instruction book ( luckily all in English)) and found nothing to explain why I get the delete screen up . Do you think it is a faulty camera? Peter.

Oh Dear: I took my newly purchased K10D to the Photographic Club last night to take some pics of the presentations of trophies at the end of the competition year, announced that I have broken my vow and got a 'digital', took it out of the box, switched it on and NOTHING HAPPENED !
It would NOT switch on; the screen was blank. Well, I have taken only about 12 frames with it since Monday and charged up the battery as per intstructions for 3 hours, and it let me down. I took out the battery, put it back and a FAINT flashing battery signal came up in the LCD screen. It seems the battery was exhausted already. You can imagine over 60 people laughing out loud at my 'PENTAX DIGITAL' shouting I should have got a CANON. Well, I cannot trust it it seems, especially as I can't even get the data into or out of the computer as the instruction book was all in French too and Jessops are not much help when I 'phoned them; just said bring it to Chelmsford (12 miles each way, 80p to park ) and they would pinch one out of the box from their demo model. Have anyone else had this trouble with a brand new battery ?

Thanks for all the tips: I did see in the camera book that in the Pentax Photo Browser it tells you how to plug the camera into the computer but of course if Windows Me Edition doesn't work with the disc I can't read all about it ! I have taken about a dozen frames so far. I found out how to change the jpeg from 10 to 6 and am running it at 6 while experimenting. My Metz 45CL3 flash WORKS from the hot shoe and I set the aperture on flash to f5.6 and the camera to same and it was correctly exposed! I tried a screw Pentax 150mm Super-Takumar f4 using the screw-K adapter outside in the street. I set the ASA to 200, set mode to 'M', set 1/250th at f8 as per Weston Master v reading and pressed the shutter and low and behold as if by magic a coloured PICTURE appeared all correctly exposed ! I shall use it on manual with screw lenses like my SV Pentax and my Weston Meter.

Well, Folks, I am about to be drummed out of the Brentwood Photographic Club as this 'Old Film Bloke' has got a DIGITAL Pentax K10D!
I will never live it down once they find out! I got the 'call' from Jessops Chelmsford after waiting over three weeks and collected it yesterday, handed over £220 Jessops vouchers + over £500 on plastic. I had to get a memory card so I thought a 1GB would be OK and they sold me a Jessops one, £29 odd. I nearly fainted at the sight of the thickness of the camera instruction book and when I opened the instruction book for the disc thingy it was all in FRENCH ! I haven't got a 'card reader' yet as wife wants a Fuji she saw at Focus and they take something called a XD card and the Pentax takes an SD card so I need a reader evidently which takes BOTH! Well, I'll let you all know when I have plucked up the courage to charge up the battery, and USE it !

AfcDav: see you are in Essex; if you are anywhere near BRENTWOOD you will be welcome to learn all you want to know from my 'Masterclasess' on traditional cameras at Brentwood Photographic Club; don't ask me about digital, I'm already FED UP with it and only had the camera since Monday !

There are NO electrical contacts on the tube set: that has caused a lot of trouble when I tried TTL metering with my mark II body; they work properly only on stop-down metering as I found vast under-exposure when I relied on the Mk II metering with lens at open aperture.
With the earlier body I have ca 1977 I give the extra exposure needed manually.
