Photographers do it with extension tubes!
Photographers do it with the lights on!
Photographers do it with Models!
I`m getting carried away with this one!!!

Thanks for the helpful feedback Pete...I might go to the Southport Airshow later this month so I'll bear the shutter speeds in mind...I did manage a few at slower sh/speeds but wasn't really paying as much attention as I probably should have..here's one
out of interest did the balloons fly at Llangollen on Saturday, I was thinking about going there too but thought the windy conditions may have meant the balloons couldn't fly ?
Simon
Hi Simon,
The Llangollen Balloon Festival was affected by wind throughout the day on Saturday with only one managing to get airborne and even tethered inflation was extremely limited, Most of the arena displays were pretty much the same as the past two years and even these were troubled by the wind. The night glow was pretty good, Though numbers were down on previous years,I was using fairly short exposures of 1/6 sec at around f4 -5.6 iso 200 when i would have preferred to use one or two second exposures at smaller apertures and 100 iso if it had`nt been so windy. I took a couple of video clips but deleted them in error so i will have to try to recover them!
I hope that you get some good shots at southport, Though you may have to shoot into sun there so try and get a viewpoint up sun from the cetreline of the display if you can.
We had a families day at work a week ago but most of the aircraft stayed away due to the weather. Most of the ones brave enough to fly by made only one pass, Sometimes without warning! I had tried to set up an experiment by taking similar shots with VR on and off but the only two at similar speed and height were of a Tornado. The VR on was the sharper of the two yet other non similar shots looked absolutely sharp with VR off so i`m inclined to believe that it makes little difference at these sort of shutterspeeds but i would still like to try again sometime.

I was only informed about this event whilst i was at the Llangollen Balloon Festival so it`s good to see some of the images of this event! Considering the weather conditions and the obvious lack of the traditional long lenses associated with this type of photography you have some very nice images! The weather was not great in North Wales yesterday! You have used the dark clouds to your advantage by making them a part of your composition.
The only slight improvement in future shots regards the shutter speeds that you used for the images of prop driven aircraft.
To give a sense that the propellers are rotating you need to use a shutter speed of around 1/350th sec (The same goes for helicopters). In very windy conditions with a very long lens you may have to sacrifice this by using something a little faster just to get an acceptably sharp image overall but in any other circumstances 1/350th should be the fastest shutter speed.
Lovely to see that Vulcan in the air again! I used to work at R A F St Athan in the mid 1970`s and one rehearsal for an Air Display there a Vulcan flew across the airfield banking very steeply with its wingtip only 10 or 15 ft off the ground. Unfortunately a cyclist who was travelling around the perimiter track fell off his bike as it flew past him!

The K9p could be very handy for lamp-post shots.

I find the bright 100% viewfinder a real boon as i need to review my shots less often on the screen. The live view is really sharp and to be able to enlarge the image in live view has saved me many times from out of focus close up images with my poor eyesight!
The autofocus is silent with DA* lenses and very quick! You also have face recognition & Contrast recognition in live view with the option of phase detection (which flips the mirror back down, takes a focus reading before returning the mirror up for live view.) The VR can cope with rotational vibration (which Canon are making a big fuss about bringing out yet another new range of lenses with this capability).
I have taken just short of 3,000 still shots and around 4 hours of video with mine. As for body size the controls are normal size, Its just the body that is that bit smaller, But if you add the grip it is a good size so you have the best of both worlds. If you want a small camera to take on holiday just take the grip off and put the kit lens on.
The digital spirit level is really useful (Though less so in manual mode as you have no exposure info unless you use the live view screen)
I have certainly enjoyed using this Camera even though my K10D went round the clock 5 times i feel more at home with the K7.The only thing which surprised me was the default "Bright" setting which took a little while to figure out as it was quite noisy straight from the Camera but now i have the Camera set to "Natural which takes out the sharpening which caused the noise. Though to be honest i shoot RAW so it was no big deal as the images corrected beautifully in PP.

Good effort, Definitely worth persuing as subject matter, I have been contemplating going to my local beach as i tend to neglect it.

which took all of my old lenses and did`nt cost the earth. The problem was that the progress being made with Digital Cameras meant that it would be expensive upgrading every couple of years so i decided i would have to make it pay for itself! So i did as much research as i could and found that a number of Stock Photolibraries accepted 6mp images so i bought a Ist DL and started sending samles to a couple of Libraries that suited my type of photography and though i was accepted by all of them i decided to stick with just one as i did`nt want it to rule my life and take away the fun of what is my hobby after all!
I then went to the K10D when the minimum requirements went up to 8mp and now i happily use the K7 (until we finally get a full frame DSLR)and i have added a 16-50 DA* and 50-135 DA* all courtesy of my 3,000+ images with the Stock Library.
All Hypothetically of course!!!
