How about the ability to crop an image tighter with the higher resolution available on the K-3 . . . . do those of you who have gone from the K-5 to the K-3 find that to be a worthwhile advantage?

1) the ability to crop/isolate small parts of an image
2) an alternative to a longer lens

I wonder how many MX-1 purchases this topic will create?
I'm getting closer to biting the bullet!

Thanks for that tip. I'll give that a try next time. As you say, lots more practice needed F8 would have increased your chances, but then you'd have had to double the ISO to 1600. Probably a trade off worth doing.
I set everything up with manual settings, but when I got home wondered if TAV mode with 2 or 3 stops exposure compensation might have worked - but I guess switching between 'sky' shots and those with a landscape background would have scuppered that idea
A few from a trip around the dams in the Elan Valley, and the Red Kites (plus an opportunist) at Gigrin Farm on Friday.
Wasn't overly happy with most of the BIF pictures - most of which were just not sharp enough for my liking! More practice needed I think. Any advice on BIF photography will be welcome

Nice pics - I'm tempted by the MX-1 for similar reasons to yours
(p.s. I know how you're feeling after a similar incident and needing to pick up an RT 1100 fully loaded with touring gear and a full tank of fuel!)

Fast and accurate focus and decent image quality. Although the Pentax 60-250 and 300 lenses will do the job perfectly well, I find the Sigma my preferred lens for motor sport (in the absence of a 100-300).
