I've emailed SRS.
It does seem like a lot of camera for the money. But also a lot of money for a camera.
My mate is a keen photographer and keeps telling me to buy Nikon. I can't find a Nikon with the same spec as the K7 for anything under £1000.
I have to say some of the results I get with the K-m with Kit lens are amazing. I don't know anything about lenses so need to ask advice on that next.
Thanks for the advice so far
Lenses? well Nikon DON'T do WR on the kit lens, and indeed it you wanted the Nikon eqv will again up to 50% more to buy (Pentax DA*16-50 F2.8 vs Nikkor 17-55mm F2.8 )
Hope this helps..

Now for the variations, I have two DA and one DAII. There is minor resolution differences with the K20D, but the K10D and DS, nothing really. Still, I use the DAII if I use the kit lens.
If I was starting from scratch and wanted one of the Kit lenses, I would go for the WR version, if only for its sealing that works. We are in a british climate after all....

But in body SR can also counteract tilt like in the K7, something in lens SR can never do.
But have their advantages, maybe a combination would be the best option.
did'nt Sigma say that you can have the SR switched on on the body and the lens for their new 70-300 lens?
I will believe it when I see it, but if they are right, maybe that would help (i have my doubts....)

Maybe a front to back SR would help as well.
And I hate to say this, but maybe this is the only advantage of in-lens SR like Nikon and Canon, rather than in-body SR of Pentax and Sony. As the lens SR will still be active as the shutter is pressed.....
Yes the body SR is still running, but it's in the body and maybe it cannot counter the shutter vibration and mirror slap, whereas the lens SR is independent (sort of) of this.

What I will do, is a comparison of various cameras and let you know my feelings. As friends have, and I quote - 5D, 5Dmk2, D3, 1Dmk4, D300, 7D, 50D, 70D etc etc.
Will be interesting to see. It won't scientific, but what is?.....
