More practice, I think the landscape mode may make the aperture smaller.

I grew up about 5 miles away! I can still remember how exciting it seemed when me and my friends realised we could walk there on our own when we were 12 or 13. I like the K20D shot with the curve of the A6.

Is that really good for ISO6400?
Am I just expecting too much?
Its like my K20D at 1600ISO
It beats images a friend of mine has done on her 1Dmk4 at 6400ISO.
Not quite at D3s IQ, but not many cameras are.
My thoughts on the K-5.
Well having the DS then K10D and K20D it is probably worth me getting one. but only 6months down the line after the price has settled down and the increase in VAT rate in January has done it stuff.
Any better than the K-7? well yes.
I did not get the K-7 as it did not really add much to my K20D IQ wise. Sure it has an extra 2fps and quieter shutter, but apart from that not much at all.
The K-5 will give me an extra 4fps (more than double), FAR better low light performance, allegedly better AF (I know not many people are interested in this, but when you have short sightedness, is is a boon)
Contrast AF in live view. And as both my K10D and D20D are both approaching 25000 clicks, 6 months will be a good time to upgrade.

As to quantify seriously good images, no-one can. One mans meat is another mans poison as they say.
However, the only way to remotely quantify is to ask yourself what an image says to you. Also, and this is more to do with a wider audence, is has an image won awards, has it been sold, does it have impact to the viewer, do people actually like it.
This is probably an area of the thread that could go on and on, and be contentious at that. But we have to agree that just looking at images on photo sharing sites, that a number of images lack that quality we all look for. I am not being snobby here, as I look at some (alright a lot) of the images I have taken a few years ago are awful. And no matter what camera I would have had in my hand, they would still have been awful...
Only by learning and a lot of practice will you produce images that you can be proud of, and if others agree, and they win comps or sell, then all the better. The camera in the hand at the time you took the image, would not have helped at all.

Lovely looking camera and the colour rendition is great (unlike my Ricoh R8....)
Here is an image I took.
no sharpness applied and I am impressed for a compact. However distance objects are a bit muddy (look at the trees in the far background) Still for the price and for the way it looks, I like it. Will work with it more and have fun with it.

The important thing is that Pentax have got a semi-pro DSLR that you don't need to make any apologies for.
