The 18-250 is a great zoom lens, very good image quality for a zoom, absolutely incredible versatility.
It is not comparable to a DA* lens in IQ, and even further away from a Prime lens IQ. (Be it the 31,35,43,50,70,77,100,200,300mm)
If you want a walkabout/travel lens, because you wish to not change lenses and travel light, than this might be for you. In my opinion it is better than the kit lens, if this is what you are updating from.
Hope this helps,
Nathan

Apologies for the trouble created at first... I actually couldn't stop laughing.
This was as under the belt, as Tyson chewing on Holyfield's ear... remember that? Its not like Holyfield didn't know what he was buying...
I find this forum incredibly amusing!
(And sorry for speaking my mind...)

It was labelled as "Pentax flash P-ttl trigger", and costed £18.
Bought it, from somewhere in Europe i think. I had been looking to buy the expensive hotshoe pentax trigger and cable (£30+£30+£27) for a while, and couldn't justify the incredible expence for such a ridiculous piece of kit.
Right, I received the trigger, and it is exactly like the pentax one, with a 1mt rolled cable, does P-ttl, works brilliantly, and costed only £18.
Perhaps you want to look for it on Ebay, and if you PM me, i can find the seller and the original buy it now auction.

The 31mm is promising... Matt, i'd be happy to meet up and have you play with it, it'll show you new dimensions of IQ...

Oh, and the flower in the middle IS in focus, and really did look like that!

The 31mm has an absolutely incredible bokeh. Just incredible.
I am so happy, I have realised a dream, and I can't wait to start using it a whole lot!

great news Mike!
I thought it was going to be something like this...
Anyway, how about a trip to Florence, as Piaggio is from pontedera, which is about 30 min from florence city centre...
Let me know if you go, I might have a special accomodation for you!
Cheers,
Nathan

The point of interest is the building, mainly the windows. If the eye is drawn to a completely different point, then the composition doesn't work.
The contrast and level of the tones doesn't make much difference, but a strong crop of the bottom part of the picture might help.
Cheers,

"If you want to think of something as 'your prime wedding lens' then buy a PRIME LENS to suit your wedding needs.

So... this is the answer regarding IQ. I have the tamron, and I love it. When i first bought it i was coming from a 18-55, and a 75-300, and it was actually a quite impressive improvement in IQ. I used the lens for many purposes, mainly landscape, 1 photoshoot (on a budget!) and a many many shots as a walkabout lens. It never failed, aparts from indoors, and in low light, where speeds are so slow that you'd need a tripod with any shot.
What else can be said? I think that if you are thinking of long range, you should buy either the 50-135mm DA* - or a sigma 70-200, or tamron 70-200, both f2.8.
Hope this helps
