I'm off to sleep, after much forum activity.
Thank God my bedroom doesn't look like this

So now 8 pages of interesting / polite / adult discussion have been deleted.

This is completely un-acceptable. What the hell is going on here?

I really don't appreciate your avatar. Actually find it very offensive.

As per the photograph, much better than the avatar.

lol

All your points are completely valid.

As much as I was having the same thoughts before buying the K7, I then actually, bought it without even trying it in my hands (Reckless yes, but I had done this at first with the K10, and there was no reason to doubt IMO). And (apologies to chris) I bought it from america, spending a grand total of £910, in mids August.

So perhaps i'm an impulsive buyer, but there you go; leap of faith!!!

Also, Danny, you're completely right in demanding the non-SDM focussing for increased speed. Its just stupid that Pentax wouldn't listen, and also, very few are complaining!

I have raised the issue of high continuous FPS and flash firing - which doesn't work unless the flash is triggered by a dumb radio trigger (and in that case it does work :evil - I've emailed them, but no response. Again, how many pentax users would want to have 'Paparazzi 5 fps flash exposures' and actually complain about it?

RE a higher end camera; unfortunately I doubt that pentax will have the resources to make one, and apart from the long awaited 645D, I can't forsee something big coming up in the next 2-3 years. Improvements on the K7 yes, full frame I don't think so, so very little to upgrade to unless the customer wants to go 645 and basically change systems altogether.

Regarding prices, I think that even Chris has taken action against the price raise, and in recent weeks lens prices have started to go down again. Probably because since the lens price rise he hasn't sold many at all, and Pentax have noticed...

I unfortunately work on Sundays, so I could either meet you after say 5 p.m. (and make good use of my ISO6400 lol) or have to do a Saturday afternoon instead

LOL the post hasn't been locked only because there are no mods online at the moment!!!!!

Amin, the comment doesn't apply to you directly. It really doesn't. I have made a case about the difference in professional vs amateurial use of Pentax cameras, I haven't made a case against you personally (whilst i have debated your comments - that I did do.)

I agree with the fact that there isn't a big difference between K20 and K7 - if we speak about image quality. For everything else, its been, IMO a very very big step forward. Nonetheless, I completely understand why you woulnd't consider this enough of a step up. Maybe you should borrow my K7 for a few hours in central london and enjoy using it - side by side with your canon.

Stefan, I completely agree with that, it is my view as well. But I understand that many here have a completely different opinion, and truly appreciate the idea of new technologies etc....

Thanks Amin,

that's real classy. mainly seeing what your attitude is to things, and the fact that you keep on selecting sentences from my posts.
This was my post

I think that the high ISO issue is only the next scapegoat after the pixel race, in an era of constantly un-satisfied moaning customers that MUST complain about something, all the time.
In any way have I 'relegated' you anywhere. I have given an opinion, NOT ABOUT YOU.

Now, instead of throwing S*** on me telling other people what an as***** i am, , are you able to have a conversation about the given topic? Or do you want to keep on with this disgusting attitude?

Drewsky,

Thank you for your comment. I think you should have read the other posts on the thread. In fact, its quite obvious that this;

Quote:
Try shooting a wedding where there is no flash allowed. Try it in a dark church. Try handholding 135mm tracking moving subjects. Try it. The reason you can't see why it's needed is because your style of photography doesn't push the boundaries. Wedding photgraphy is very demanding.
you describe, is the situation where a PROFESSIONAL needs a specific tool for his job. Had you read my other posts, you would have read that I perfectly understand that certain professional photographers need certain specific features from their cameras. Amin is not in this category (or at least hasn't said he is) and therefore my argument.

1 - many (even here) are successful wedding photographers and use Pentax, and therefore it is possible, if maybe hard - and they should have every right to require higher standards from pentax.

2 - The people I was debating with are not professional photographers - that's why I was arguing my case.

3 - I push my camera very very hard. I also understand the limits of physics, and the fact that until 2002 (or somewhere around that year) there was no consumer digital camera on the market. Having learnt photography on film cameras I understand that for over a hundred years photographers managed just fine without all this rush for better technology (being pixels or high ISO). And now its all we talk about. (you can argue, like Danny does, that once the technology exists we should only aim at expecting more and more from a brand - IMO this is only technology rush, and I have other ideals about photography. Nonetheless its a completely fair view!)

4 - I also understand that Pentax cannot compete in all areas of the market. to be honest I think this is the only think that makes pentax special. its a system with a type of photographer in mind, and whilst I am (clearly) a very dedicated pentax user, I do not wish pentax to become something it can't become, like a sports system. I much rather have a system that (in the pro-spec consumer market) concentrates on giving a small light travel package, rather than go out of its depth and try something it simply doesn't have the resources of doing. At the same time I appreciate the fact that if I was a sports/wedding/fashion pro photographer, I would use another system, and keep the Pentax for other use.

Amin, I've never said you were ignorant. Nor that your knowledge of photography is limited to anything. DON'T PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH. And also, you might want to cut the attitude and the rolling smileys, they are both unnecessary.

As per the first part of your post.
Don't you use Flash to illuminate your 'smoke experiment' photographs? What's the high ISO got to do with those photographs then?

Anyway, I have explained my point about the difference between the requirements of a professional photographer, and the NON requirements of a non professional photographer. If you don't agree with me, fine, you're using a canon cause you think its better, I couldn't want to disagree more!

Nathan

And Danny,
to go back and use your 'moving' in a camera brand metaphore.

the K7 is not a Smart - the K7 could be compared to a brand new Vauxhall Isignia estate - compared to a Mercedes or BMW estate.
And yes, you would be able to use this car for moving - and only if you were a rather wealthy person, with a large house (read professional photographer) - you would HAVE to hire moving company (Hasselblad or Leaf!). Most people on a budget (pentax users) would surely do with a few trips in their estate car - and the occasional van hire for furniture...

Fair?

(its not OCD. I hope. :roll
