I really don't appreciate your avatar. Actually find it very offensive.

As per the photograph, much better than the avatar.

What do you think about the snap on his collar? My eye keeps being pulled over to it and away from his face...

The avatar, to me, means not pro Europe. Everyone is entitled to an oppinion.

I'm with Nathan on the avatar. Not sure if it's offensive (it just may be in a non-political forum such as this - it is certainly provocative), but I completely disagree with the sentiment. Working with many Europeans outside Europe has confirmed my view on how much we share. And while the EU's far from perfect, as a(n underdeveloped) European counterweight to American and Chinese power in the 21st century it's the only game in town. (IMHO!)

But before this descends into a political thread... I agree with Nathan about the photo too. A great portrait. My favourite so far I think - though to be honest I didn't see many of your earlier ones as I rarely checked out the 'Your Photos' section in Addis due to the dire connection.

My only reservation is that the stubble looks sharper than the eyes.

It may not be but it looks like it.

If that bloke at the top thinks that he is offended by my avatar, well think about the people in my country that have not ever been given a referendum on whether we'd like to give our sole sovereignty and rights over to unelected bureaucrats in the EU.

Very powerful and impressive image, as usual. And the B&W put to stunning effect. The expression is very powerful and I like this image.

Your images are welcomed here by some, your political views are not. Your avatar makes a statement which is disagreeable to some people here.

You should think considerately about changing it, and moving it to a site where it might be relevant.

Please stay on track in this thread.

Paul - another fine image, although I think I agree about removing the collar snap.

A great portrait, no doubt. Fantastic shot. And after reading the comments I do see the distraction in the collar snap. I think you have a good hand in capturing these hardened faces and I also think that your compassion for the disadvantaged makes a great part of this skill.

On the avatar I had a private discussion with Paul already (and I think that this is the right way to discuss). One more thought on this: Imagine the Union Jack crossed in the same way as my avatar. How would you feel about that one?
