This is an old M series lens. Looks to me like the aperture spring has come unset/broken - that's the rattling sound - as the lens isn't opening or closing when you fiddle with the aperture lever (connected by spring). Never had that happen on any of the 25 lenses I've bought and which have been delivered to me by mail. I've seen these springs rust though and maybe the mail journey made the already weak spring break. Or maybe it was already like this when sent.

I was surprised that the winner is a digitally 'manufactured' shot

Peter, to my eyes this shows your 1600 off very well - mine was 100! And not only that, but I stacked 5 using registax. One day I really must get this K5 thing, dammit

Really really interesting mannesty - especially the top one (to me). Might be interesting for you too - have a look at this moon shot which uses exactly the same lens also at 500 but at f8, 1/160 and on a k-7 and no TC - looks very very similar. I found actually when I tested I ended up getting a slightly better result without tc than with.

One question, there does seem to be a slightly dark halo emerging from the right side of the moon, any idea what that's about?

Thx for posting.

Backs up what I'm seeing. Judging by the amount of noise across various twitter accounts, I have to say Q has generated quite a bit of excitement, esp. in Japan.

I was in LCE Guildford last w/e and astonished to see a 645d in the window. I asked the guy and they sold one only last week. His explanation was that affluent area means people come in and buy nice shineys.

Coker - just a little extra flash blast from above on 1/8 with a homemade diffuser
Smeggypants - got lucky, it stayed put. Bit of a poser I guess =)

Thank you all for your kind comments

Looks a lot better at full size - there's detail in the eyes that smaller versions don't show. Reversed -k 1.2 50 on 65mm, this morning
