There can be lots of reasons for pricing like this. The bodies might have been purchased at a higher price and now a kit price offer has come along so they've bought some in.

It can also (not necessarily in this case) be done deliberately by the wholesaler. It makes people think they are getting a better deal and they'd better hurry before anyone notices!

Amazon can be very odd on occasion. Items drop vertically in price for a week or so then pop back up again. I always suspect that they take the attitude of "It's been in the warehouse for too long, drop the price to just above cost and shift it".

Amazon price match a lot of marketplace seller prices. I have often wondered what happen if you listed a brand new k-5 for £499.99 & see if they would price match it...

I do believe this has something to do with Pentax's list prices. I know when I was buying my K20D (around the time the K7 came out) that the list price for both the K7 and K20D bodies was more than the body + kit lens price. This was nothing to do with price matching but just how they were listed on the computer systems in the both Jacobs and Youngs shops.
