YAMS - Yet Another Moon Shot

Well, three actually.

I've been trying out the K5 + Sigma 150-500mm lens combo recently but I've had no time to sit and wait for birds etc. All at 500mm but the last two were with the smc Pentax F 1.7x AF adapter fitted.

Really really interesting mannesty - especially the top one (to me). Might be interesting for you too - have a look at this moon shot which uses exactly the same lens also at 500 but at f8, 1/160 and on a k-7 and no TC - looks very very similar. I found actually when I tested I ended up getting a slightly better result without tc than with.

One question, there does seem to be a slightly dark halo emerging from the right side of the moon, any idea what that's about?

Johan, your moon shot is much sharper than mine. Well done.

I had expected that using ISO 1600 on the K5 would produce a better image than this actually.

The dark halo is probably due to Picasa, which is what I use to post to the web. The halo is not visible in Lightroom.

I'll have to resurrect my Flickr account I think and post directly to it from Lightroom.

We'll probably have a clear sky tonight again so I may well have another go without the T/C. The moon is actually not very high at the moment, about 45 degrees from horizontal so there is bound to be some atmospheric influence.

Peter, to my eyes this shows your 1600 off very well - mine was 100! And not only that, but I stacked 5 using registax. One day I really must get this K5 thing, dammit
