I usually plug it into the charger and leave it over night or all day - the light goes out when it's done, and there is no danger of "cooking" the battery!

The K7 Lithium Ion Battery does not have a "memory" therefore recharging from half charge is not a problem. I expect you are thinking of older generation batteries that had to be completely discharged at each re-charge. So if I were you - and I have done this with my K7 battery, I would stick it on charge tonight and it will be ready to go in the morning. You will find the K7 battery does take a little longer to charge than say K10 or K20 versions!

Hope this helps...

If you have a spare wet suit and would like to protect your lens.link
Thank you Tom. I hate to admit it, but I threw out a wet suit about 2 years ago - Probably to make room for the lens
Will do a quick scan on ebay and see whats about! I did think about checking some of the wet suit shops in Cornwall on my next visit, to see if I could pick up some bits

I don't understand why they went to SDM in the first place - it makes no sense to me! What's wrong with the old screw drive mechanism, it's simple and reliable.
Because if you're Pentax and even Sigma can do sonic motors and you can't, the marketing folks get a bit upset
In my experience, SDM is much quieter and faster (Perhaps not by much)

A stupid question but if I don't ask e.t.c

Is a lens coat used for protecting the lens from bumps and rain or is it for camouflage.

Greg
Well it actually does both. For me it would be more for lens protection, given the fact that the silver paint finish on the FA Lenses is easily scratched and marked

Pentax could pull a clever move by releasing the firmware of older models to the opensource/enthusiasts and watching developments! Might give them good ideas for future products!
K10D onwards LINK

Not official by any means.

I believe I can swap to screw drive on my DA* lenses by going back a firmware on K10D.
I think this one should be left to those who know what they are doing or you could be left with an expensive pentax shell!

The reason I ask this question is because I recently emailed Lens Coat re the supply of their product for the above lens. The response was that, because there was no call for a Lens Coat product for that lens, there is no pattern. However, should there be enough interest, and the company owner, (In the New York area), be able to borrow a copy of the lens for a couple of days, a lens coat could be made, and would then be on the product list. Now comes the hard bit - cost: Initial makeup and supply same, would be about $190US. Subsequent copies would retail at about $90
