The stock-photo article does finish by saying "The above is still speculation". Is this just another rumour? I liked the speculative price tag of $900 - $1200. That'll be £900 - £1200 to us brits, or maybe just €900 - €1200, we live in hope.

It also mentions "better battery". I wonder if that means custom battery. It does mention AA's later though.

Oh well, we're still not much the wiser but if Pentax have included only half of the rumoured technology improvements, it's going to be a winner. I'll be buying one, probably from Europe. And if it as good as we hope, my film days are history. Anybody want an MZ-S ?

So now we have anti-shake, anti-dust, anti-flare etc. Will cameras of the future include anti-biotic ? Now there's an opportunity for someone to make a killing (deliberate pun) on consumables, especially if you have to take 3 a day.

Is there a possibility you are using a faulty card? Try using a different one for the upgrade.

After the upgrade, have you done a full reset to factory defaults?

You don't need to use an AC adapter as long as you are 110% sure your batteries are good and fully charged. You could try a different set of batteries. The flashing process only lasts a minute or so and a fully charged set of good cells will not deplete in that time.

Stevey500,

It would be very foolish to try and 'fix' such a complicated mechanism as a Pentax metering system. Most of the clever bits are inaccesible to Joe Public as they surround the pentaprism/pentamirror.

And if you were to open your camera to 'fix' the problem you would certainly 'break' your warranty. Send it back to Pentax is the best, and probably only, option.

When you downloaded the software, did you get the correct firmware for your model camera?

Have you tried downgrading the firmware to version 2.0?

Version 2.01 doesn't add any new functions anyway unless your were on a pre-version 2.0 release previously. It only adds support for new types of SD card.

Gwyn,

Where have you seen the restriction on carrying electronic keyfobs ? I can't find any reference to it.

Most cars, manufactured in the last 10 years or more, have remote locking. If these items are banned from cabin/personal baggage, what happens when you arrive at security check with them?

I think its important to note that it is not airlines themselves that have imposed these latest restrictions, but the Department of Transport. That's not to say that individual airlines don't impose additional restrictions like Ryanair's 'Nothing to be carried in pockets' restriction. There is no mention of this on the DoT site so I'm assuming its a Ryanair add-on.
Prior to the recent terrorist plot (failed) I used to always take an old car coat on each flight, even in summer, because it's litttered with pockets. If I filled them wisely, I managed to get an extra 5 - 8Kg onboard, legitimately. Camera in one pocket, iPod, GPS, lenses, batteries etc. in others. The restrictions then only applied to baggage weight, not personal clothing and its contents. With Ryanair at least, that has changed. Thankfully my next trip to Spain will be my last for a while as I have no immediate plans to return to UK unless a business or family emergency crops up.

George,

I'm flying to Spain next week and your statement about not being able to carry cameras onboard got me more than a tad worried, so I checked.

The following is an extract of Ryanair's baggage restrictions as of todays date, 9/9/2006 :-

Cabin/hand baggage MUST NOT contain:

Any cosmetics
Any toiletries
Any liquids
Any drinks
Cigarette lighters
No gels, pastes, lotions, (e.g. toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, deodorant, shaving foam, aerosols, etc.)
Nothing must be carried in pockets.

Cabin baggage CAN contain the following:

Electronic equipment, including laptops, mobile phones and portable music and DVD players.
Prescribed medicines in liquid form e.g. diabetic medicines
Baby milk and liquid baby food (the contents of each bottle MUST be tasted by the parent)
All electronic equipment will need to be removed from the item of hand baggage and screened separately.
Pushchairs and walking aids will be permitted but must be x-ray screened and searched.

Whilst cameras are not specifically mentioned, I'm assuming that they would be included under the 'electronic equipment' heading.

Has anybody who has flown recently had any problems carrying cameras onboard?

I also would never commit my camera gear to be checked in.

Department of Transport ruling on cabin baggage can be found here and it also does not exclude cameras, only liquids and containers capable of carrying liquids.

Gwyn,

you still pay VAT on inter-European purchases unless its a business purchase, and you are VAT registered, and you supply your VAT number at the time of purchase.

VAT in Germany however is only 16%.

The only change is the ability to use the new SDHC cards. No other changes have been made as far as I know.

I got quite excited for a moment . . . 'til I found out what SDHC meant. The update applies only to SD memory card models, doesn't apply to 'D' owners
